Well, I think this weekend I'm going to start tearing into my 283. I can't stand seeing it rusting over in the corner of the shop. My truck leaks oil like its going out of style and I know the 305 needs attention. I'll do a tear-down and see what I need to replace. Hopefully, just some rings and bearings and a hone-in' will do.
Got some car shows comming up next month...gotta get her ready! D

Thanks for the Fix, The Truck sure Does look Nice. You Have done an Outstanding Job with the Color Selection's of Both Interior & Exterior on the Truck, I Do have one Question for You & That is How did you do on the original Budjet that you stated for the Build? It is worth every Penny that you have invested...............

If I were to have replace the fenders, doors... etc with new sheet metal, it might be worth a bit more, but your out-cost would be more. This isn't a project you take on for resale purposes! D

Looks like this weekend will be pretty light so I think I'm gonna start tearing into that 283 and get an idea of what shape it's in. Hopefully I will be able to bolt everything from my 305 onto it like my headers and intake, etc...

Just a thought, You may want to consider using your 305 heads on the 283, Depending on the heads, they could be very similar cc and have better valves and seat for unleaded.
My son (spray-bomb)is currently doing that for his 283. His 305 heads are 58cc with 1.84/1.50 valves. His 283 heads were 60 cc with 1.74/1.50 valves. I think the 283 is the perfect "driver" engine for our old pickups. I am curious to see how yours works with the 700R4. What gears do you have? Keep up the great work. Lee

Hey thanks for the advice and complements! Funny you should say that because just earlier today I ran into a guy at our local feed store and he said exactly the same thing after talking to him about my truck!
I might just do that. I was told also that I can block off the rear vent valve (or something like that) to make my 283 run like a 305. I am still amazed at how many people scoff at my putting a 283 in. Everyone keeps telling me to put in a 350. (ick) Everyone does that. I like to be different. I'll keep everyone posted. By the way, it looks like you guys have a pretty awesome setup going on at your place. Love the garage! I'll check to see what gears I'm running because as of now I'm not quite sure... D

I have a 283 in mine and it has plenty of power to do what I need. I have been know to smoke the rear tires on occasion.

Cool shots. My father-in-law (RIP) had several of those alarms. The last was a real cream-puff. Had a great bark, though. I miss both of 'em.
Now I gotta ask- do you remember the wagon next to the white 71-72? Looks like a Dodge? I'm just curious. I like wagons, too.
