Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Thanks, I dug out our old digital camera this morning for the wife to take to the new house to take some progress pics. Lo and behold there are a couple of pics of our fall colour tour in October with more pics of the truck.

I will post them later tonight.

Finally downloaded some pics of our trip in the fall before putting her away for hibernation. Also a couple of pics of my passengers for the day, my wife Sharon and our little cocker spaniel Oscar.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

The truck is out of the storage building and safely tucked away at our new house in its very own garage, HOORAY!! I haven't had much time to drive her but I have put about 45 miles on it this spring already or about a 1/4 tank of fuel.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Thanks guys, and Brian I already volunteered to drive your truck and take pictures of it for you while I am enjoying it.

I just put them on for a minute to show the wife. I was going to hide them from her and then one day just kinda put them on. But I figured that since yesterday was our first year anniversary and I went to a swap meet for the day I should be honest with her, and I am glad that I was. She loves them on the truck. Even though I spent more money on the truck. I just have to modifly the lugs on the rear end now as we used a Ford rear end without the external threads, I did however already purchase the correct nuts just need to make sure that they will work.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Thanks again. You wouldn't actually see me driving the truck as you are many miles away. I would even roll back the odometer and change the oil before giving it back to you. Either that or you and Mario could work out a deal, he could drive your truck to Alberta and give it to you and then he could buy a nice western truck and drive it back. There problem solved.

Haha...don't get me started with the western trucks I've already come across a few I want to make mine. What money I am making out here might just turn into a collection of these fine "trucks".

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Some pics leaving a concours with my buddies '60 F-100 in tow. He won his division and we had the prettiest hauler there by far, everyone else had new Silverado's. It was funny at the hotel there where 4 of us lined up, all driving GMC products all towing Ford products, it has hillarious.

Hey Brian;

Hows life out west treating you? Sharon is due on the 28th so it won't be much longer now. I decided to stay home from a local show here today and finish off the nursery as she literally could have the baby any day now.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

James,

Life is good so far. I'm enjoying the sights and new Job as much as can be expected. I've decided I'd like to make a trip home sometime in September maybe. Do you know when the Fall Barrie Flea Market is? Maybe I could arrange to be home for that...

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Brian;

Glad to hear that you are surviving.

Fall Barrie should be the weekend after labour day, so that should make it the 7th to the 10th I think.

If your up I am going to try to go over for at least one day, depends on the family situation.

Normally I camp on my parents spot on Thursday night, but I can't see that happening this year.

Wow. I must admit I've never been a fan of duallies but I can't help but be in awe of your truck. The craftsmanship appears to be second to none, and I don't believe I've ever seen anything like it. I cringe at the thought of how hard that had to have hit you in the pocketbook!
Anyway, my hat's off to you and the guys who made that truck a reality. Simply awesome.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Thanks for the compliment.

The whole pocketbook thing got me into a whole lotta trouble with the wife. As I said before it was completed enough for me to drive it to my wedding. On our honeymoon while we where in the maritimes, about 2000 km away from home Sharon asked me exactly how much I spent on it, I answered conservatively and now she refers to it as the house. But I still managed to get her a real one with a garage for the truck. Luckily for me she loves the truck and won't even let me think about selling it.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Awesome truck! What type of transmission is that? I am in the process of putting an NV3500 in mine (5 speed from a 1994 GMC) but mine doesnt look anything like that. Did you have a lot of work to do with frame mounts? I understand that the 88 and up frames are 3 inches wider than the 68-72s. Did you have to cut a lot to get the cab to fit? The bed would probably be pretty easy to do but I bet the cab was some work.

Also, how did you make it a king cab? That is awesome!

Here are a couple of pics from me and my newborn son's first ride in the truck. He slept the whole way but I know that he enjoyed it, I know that I sure did, can't wait until next spring when I can pull the truck back out of the garage and take him for another spin.

Thanks!! The transmission is a NV4500 from a '92 GMC. As far as the frame mounts go it really wasn't a problem either, hacked off the original body mounts and installed ours. The extend a cab was formed out of regular metal, did it that way instead of using an extra set of doors. My dad extended a '52 IHC using two extra cabs and 4 doors into a crew cab and the body lines really don't match up quite right, so that is why they free formed this one.

Re: Progress pics of my '68 GMC Extend-a-cab

Thanks again, I have been having fun showing the truck this summer with the family. I haven't got the back seat installed yet but we manage to all squeeze in with the car seat.

Here is a pic of the truck at the show that my parent's have been running for 25 years with Ryan showing off his new dump truck.
