6" diameter. I went with it and the smallest harmonic damper I could find to make room for my steering rack.

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
After building the truck up enough to drive, I have about 100 miles on it - noticed the LF fender sits 1" lower than the RF. I'm not sure, but I think my cab may be tweaked from the accident that bent the frame - I've got a lot more measurements to take - the frame rails are even on both sides. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong - but I did find a large RIP inside the cab, from the kick panel vent door - almost up to the bottom of the A-pillar. This kind of goes along with the bent cab mount bolts when I was disassembling everything...
So I decided to take a quick look on craigslist yesterday to see if anyone nearby had something decent, cab-wise. Third hit found gold. ![]() I'm picking the cab, doors, hood, inner & outer fenders, grille, rad suport up tomorrow. ![]() Best part? (Besides being a TN truck) $200. (the glass is included, along with a tilt column) |

Its not if you get hurt when riding bikes...its when. Ask me how I know...Right or left arm? You got off pretty good there, both coulda broke! When you heal up you will be even faster on the bike. Hang in there.

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
Thank you for the kind words, all.
![]() Alan- The cab came from a 66 short wide down in TN. I bought the remaining sheetmetal from a "local" Michigan guy - he bought the whole truck just for the frame; seems he owns a pristine 63, but finds that it's sitting on a 62 or older frame. He found it on a side trip down south and bought it from a state trooper that had dreams of rebuilding it to its former glory. I'd bet he found the challenge we all usually are faced with and decided to sell - as he started to find all the work waiting for him! He said that this truck was the local hotrod and he grew up falling in love with it and bought it when the chance presented itself. Whoever had it prior was quite accomplished with mud, as there is plenty to be found - but it's over things that even I think I could pound out with some patience. ![]() The top color is a dark silver / purple that is gorgeous. Don't think I've ever seen this particular color before - and never would've thought of combining it with red - but daaaaang - it looks hot! I have to look at Alan's cab and see how close it is. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
that looks like a ktm. if so you have good taste in trucks AND dirt bikes. and ofcourse its the left hand. the right hand was probably still opening the throttle! when in doubt throttle out right?!

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
Funny you mention it, but I did twist the throttle on the way down.
![]() ![]() My clutch line failed on me two weeks ago, and I spent 4 hours today replacing it. Man, do I ever miss my left arm and having "unbroken" ribs - irritated my ribcage so much today - I can barely breathe w/o sharp pain. *TOTALLY* worth it though - went for a couple mile drive and snapped a few shots that aren't in front of my garage. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
nah 60 hp aint too awful much. lol. i used to break horses back in the day and had a small incident with one of them. either way got about 1200lbs of horse via the saddle horn right into my ribs. it was pain full. but not near as bad as every day after that. any way. basically broken ribs suck and now i have 2 new options for a background on my compter.

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
ugh!
The wife leases an Arabian at a local farm; dang thing is a bit of a nutcase. Already thrown her twice - but luckily no injuries! Speaking of ribs - I've got some nice shots of broken ribs and punctured lung from a few years back. I was goofing off on mt MTB at a local BMX track, waiting for a ride to start. ![]() Glad to hear ya didn't die - but I bet there were times it felt like you were! ![]() |
