Re: 72 K-10 Chevy Truck

You can set a big block where a small block goes. It will be tight but can and has been done. You will need a truck oil pan, not a car one. You won't be able to use tall valve covers, and putting a HEI in requires a little massaging of the fire wall other wise it will rub the firewall. The exhaust routing is different as well so you will have to change or replace that. You will need to get all the brackets and pullies from a big block truck or hope they come on your donor engine. You can move the engine cross member forward one bolt hole to gain some firewall clearance but that seems to be a preference thing as well.

Re: 72 K-10 Chevy Truck

Everytime I see a "big block engine" thread I feel such remorse for getting rid of my '79 Suburban back in the late 90s. I remember finally being able to buy a new car for the 1st time (Explorer 4x4) and couldn't have been any happier giving her over to the dealership (for only 1 grand). I wished I could go back into time and slap myself in the head!

.... walks away and cries some more .....
