This fire business is really getting old

Every year. Last year I can't remember how many months straight, I think that's partially why my dog's retina's had detached. We brought em back though, steroids & antibiotics. Now he gets the bestest food - and still complains

Snowing ash for days. On the bright side the lawn will like it, which I no longer recognize. Climate change is a bummer, seems West Coast is becoming the next Sahara.

That's nasty! Fire burned the mountains all around the valley where I live in '03. Hoping for no repeats.

Agree hope everyone stays safe, there are worse things than smoke. The climate is definitely changing. Happened before, Nevada has the biggest concentration of Ichthyosaurs'

Remains of ancient trees underwater Lake Tahoe. Interesting video how Tahoe was developed on Youtube.

Ain't it the truth! Wife & I have endured hazardous levels of smoke countless times over the years. Thank goodness we haven't been burned out though.
A lot of areas around us have been impacted by fire and look vastly different than when we moved here in the mid-seventies.

Re: This fire business is really getting old

The fires have been really bad where I live in Idaho. We had evacuations due to the rate at which the fires were moving. I watched planes and helicopters making runs to and from the Snake River for water. I'm hoping we get some rain soon, it's flash tinder dry here. A couple weeks ago, my thermometer logged a high temperature of 120F in the shade!

Re: This fire business is really getting old

August of 2020 we had the lightning storms that kicked off the fires in our area. We missed them being that we were camping at the lake a few hours away and were driving home that day.

Fast forward to yesterday. Just returned from the same lake and had been home no more than an hour and get a bunch of weather alert texts and emails for "dry lightning" for the next 36 hours. Couldn't sleep a wink last night.

Keep your go bags ready, stay safe and hang in there folks. We are keeping you all in our thoughts.

Re: This fire business is really getting old

I pray for those in fire country to be safe and for rain to fall. We are getting the smoke haze back east here now, same as last year.

We've got one going right now. 1600 acres and counting. No evacuation orders ...Yet.

Luckily it wasn't too windy yesterday. We'll see what today brings.

Re: This fire business is really getting old

Locally we have three wildfires going, one 2 miles away the other two are 8-9 miles away, scary times for sure! The one picture that you can see flames was taken from our deck. they are refilling the copters in the river right across the road from us. As soon as we witnessed the fire breach the top of the mountain we decided to go ahead and load up the trucks with all the important items and get ready to evacuate if necessary. Needless to say we haven't real slept well for the last week. So far with 3 helicopter, 5 air tankers, many firetrucks, bulldozers and hundreds of firefighters they are keeping them at bay.

Hazy smoke here yesterday. Weather girl said it was from the fires in the west. That is amazing that the smoke can travel 2000 miles!

Hey there's an idea without politics for what is it again, the great power grid on batteries with no impact on the environment, cough!...How much carbon enters the air while the west burns. Money much better spent IMO, lots of employment, everyone gets to be a logger Plus it's good work for the soul.

View of right now, today was the worst of it, this has cleared out some, it's the first hint of wind today, which is unusual, we're summer heat with very windy afternoons. Nice morning for yardwork though, it didn't bother me. Didn't have a bloody nose this morning, I'm just building tolerance

From my experience smoke can make dogs sick, neighbor's dogs etc. Generally nothing to be alarmed about. My lab had to build a tolerance, so far so good the big guy who temporarily lost his vision over it last run, IMO. Perhaps the food I give them is paying off, runs near 80 for I think it's a 50 lb. The dogs don't **** as much, that alone is worth the trade
