Quadrajet or Edelbrock Carb AVS2 ?

Quadrajet or Edelbrock Carb AVS2 #1906, 650 cfm?

On a '72 350, 441 cast heads 1.94 intakes, RV cam, Headers , 10:1 compression. In a K20 with 4:10 gears 35" tires

Im running a leaky old tired stock quadrajet now . Was going to get a New built Stage 2 Quadrajet from Sean Murphy @ $639

Now started looking at the Edelbrock AVS2 #1906 @ $433. 650 cfm

Busy with a new property on acreage, cutting overgrown trees and setting up my shop . just want to get a done carb. Maybe Ill go through my old carb later

Thought id have fun with any opinions the Quadrajet or a Edelbrock Carb. Maybe someone is runnung that edelbrock evs2... Do you like it.

Re: Quadrajet or Edelbrock Carb AVS2 ?

In almost 50 years of driving and working on all types of vehicles, I haven't found a carburetor that runs better than a well-tuned Quadrajet. I like the small primaries for economy and the large secondaries for get up and go.

I’d go quadrajet.
Depending on your intake you might need an adaptor for the avs. And maybe a fuel regulator. And possibly a heat spacer. And maybe linkage too.
It all adds up.
In the end both could be the same price.
Quadrajet bolts on, avs doesn’t.

Another vote for a Quadrajet - they can take a pretty good off-road angle without flooding the engine. They used to be called the 'poor man's fuel injection"

I vote for Q-jet. I 0verhauld the one in my 72 Super & it starts & drives like it has fuel injection.

I'm late to the vote, but also vote Q-jet. With a caveat, do NOT buy one from the company that claims to make new Q-jets off the old design. Rebuild yours or swap with a shop that will give you a good rebuild. Look at the ID number on your carb and try to get one with the same ID number.

I love Q-jets and they sound awesome when you open up the secondary. Only caveat I would say if it sits a lot. The Edelbrocks seems to tolerate old gas and sitting better. In my opinion, Edelbrocks are also easier to rebuild.

Another vote for the Quadrajet. I'm running a Carter AFB, but as a retired GM mechanic I'd rather have a Quadrajet.

I'm a vote for the Edelbrock. They are readily available for a reasonable price. They are easy to tune and adjust the AFR....and my Performer series has been a rock solid carb for many miles. However, I wouldnt try to adapt one to a spread bore intake.
