Question about flaking primer.

It looks like the PO did a poor job of prepping the body before putting down primer on my truck. Now the primer is actually flaking off in some areas.

I was wondering if there is any products out that that would remove primer without doing damage to the paint underneath? Granted, I could probably just wait a few years and it would all just fall off...lol

Re: Question about flaking primer.

The primer us likely hiding some bad bodywork. If the PO shortcut the prep for primer he probably short cut everything else.

Paint stripper will eat everything, paint or primer and soften and destroy any filler underneath.

You could sand the primer off with 800 grit and buff the paint if the paint is in excellent condition. seeing as it is covered with primer, I'll bet it is less than good shape.

I would recommend. Sanding the primer with 180 till it feathers out and doesn't flake. Then reprime. This way would give you the best results with the less work and cost. Next best method would be to strip, rework the metal, fill, sand then prime.
