Hub caps on steelie wheels for 8 lug axles. Wheel and tire question

Okay truck is a 1977 K10 stepside with F60/14Ff out of a M1028. Current lift is 5 inch.

I have had everything from stock to 39.5x15 boggers on my truck. Since i mainly use it for hauling and have a contractor cap on the back i would like a little smaller tire and a classic stock look.

Right now the truck has 37x12.5r16.5 military MTRs on recentered 8 lug beadlocks.

Would like a 35-36 inch tire that is narrow on a steels wheel with hub caps.

Do ford e250/e350 16 inch steelies fit our truxks? If so when did they change the lug spacing?

What metric tire sizes would get me in this size range? Who makes a decent 16 inch tire that is cheaper then interco but still on the agressive side?

Thanks for any help. Will post pic of truck ahortly.

Truxk has 4:56’s and. 6.2 diesel so i can’t go less then a 35 inch tall tire without killing my highway sped

regular newer style eight lug wheels fit i had 16 inch steelies from a 98 model that fit right on. I put Discoverer tires on my CUCV and they were nice.. of course my CUCV is used exclusively as a plow truck in a neighboring town so i dont see much use over 55 mph

Truck has had 31’s, 34x10.5 TSL’s , 35x14.5 Gumbos, 37x12.5 Goodyear MTs, 39.5x15 Boggers and now has the 37 MTR’s.

Of all i liked the handling and offroad of the 34x10.5 TSLs the best

Your truck is too big for the 16x6 steelies. The tallest narrow tire that I know of is the 235/85R16 which is around 33". They will look too small with your 5" lift. You might as well forget the hubcaps and keep the wheels you have and run whatever 35's

Re: Hub caps on steelie wheels for 8 lug axles. Wheel and tire question

Not looking to run 16x6.5’s or 16x6

Looking to run the FORD econoline E250/350wheels which i understand are wider.. I am asking if anyone has run them and if they are wider.

I do not want to keep my 16.5’s because tires are getting hard to find and the beadlocks are heavy and don’t balance well. I regularly drive this truck from Boston to NYC which is part of the reason for the switch. I also would be willing to remove the 1 inch body lift.

I know wheel vintiques make the wider 8 lug steelies but wanted to see if the FORD wheels could work...

Here is the look i am after:

Re: Hub caps on steelie wheels for 8 lug axles. Wheel and tire question

I looked for the Ford van wheels and couldnt find a decent set....so I settled on us wheels (16×8), which had more positive offset than wv.. the local trailer manufacturers around here have the market on pull off wheels, so good ones are hard to find locally
and I went with 255/85-16 bfgs.(roughly 10x33.1 on paper)....they are about 34in tall inflated though..

Re: Hub caps on steelie wheels for 8 lug axles. Wheel and tire question

yes the ford standard 16x7 8-6.5 lug should fit your axles, I just had a dozen virgin spares blasted and powder coated.. I think trucks changed to a metric wheel 1999 and vans up to 2010ish.. but please don't quote me, check hub fitment is best

yes there is a tall narrow radial tire that fits them, SSR-41R 35x10.5R16LT Super Swamper Radial TSL/SSR

https://www.intercotire.com/tire/133

I just spoke to Joey at Interco last week and although 8" rim width would be ideal, 7" are in range but might crown a little, have to pay attention to wear and mind inflation.. but since I have the wheels he recommended I try them and figured I would likely be happy with them..

if you're going with 8" 82 series wheel vintiques, you'll be right in the sweet spot for those tires..

https://www.wheelvintiques.com/16x8-...4-quot-bs.html

$130 16x8 in black powder coat but I believe they will powder coat white and custom offset for small fees..

this is a later model ford 16x7 with the SSR-41R to get an idea of fitment.. had a tough time finding pictures of that tire on 16x7 but these look just right to me..

I'm looking to replace these 36" STA Super Lugs on my K20 Burb

hope that helps - good luck!

Re: Hub caps on steelie wheels for 8 lug axles. Wheel and tire question

I had stock 16" x 6.75" wheels on my old Suburban mud rig with 38.5x11x16 boggers on it. The rims were off a '77 Chevy K20.

Thanks for all the great input!!!!!!!

Contacted a local ford breaker and he confirmed the wheels are 8 on 6.5 lug patter ubtill 1999.

I think this will get me right were i want to be for short money.... tires are going to hurt the wallet.

they're made by accuride and the oval logo will be concealed by the hubcap

Great bang for your buck, the accuride Ford wheels are practically free, at least thats what mine cost me.
