End of summer, can't believe it's over. Just been getting ready for the winter. Rebuilt the front end and replaced the body mounts this week.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Thought I should start repairing rockers. Waiting on my inner rockers, can't really cut em out until I see what I get to work with. I did wire brush and painted with rust converter on the parts I'm keeping. My rocker boxes are in great shape, I will wire brush those and shoot with rust converter then rust encap. Oh what fun.....

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Love the truck.

Are you going with all factory A/C parts or something like Vintage Air system?

My 72' has the Vintage Air kit and it hooks up to the factory AC controls which i love. It is also almost all behind the dash so that you dont need the huge black box in the engine bay. Helps keep things clean. Plus it blows super super cold.

Also have a 700r4 and LOVE it. Nothing like cruising at highway speeds at a comfy RPM.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

I'm still tossing around the vintage and factory idea. I've heard of some decent mods to the factory which I may go with. I really want to keep it factory and most of the summer is top off anyway.

sorry not trying to hi jack but does the vintage air kit come with patterns for non ac blazer to make the ac look factory or is it vents added underneath the dash? also how loud is it if its all inside the cab?

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

I don't call it hijacking, I call it informative. I've heard that it does come with the patterns and that was one of the reasons that I was leaning toward that setup.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Just finished VA kit in a 72 C10. Best mod ever, frigid, easy install and all with a factory look. No under dash vents. Comes complete with center vent and the option of lurking big ball vents on the sides compared to the standard small ball vents.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Just starting a full restore. Got the front clip off and the windshield out today. The window frame has been a concern ever since I brought this truck home but after removing the windshield what a relief to see only surface rust and no holes.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Week two pulled the trany and transfer case out and pressure washed. I gotta wait until next week to finish dismantling the frame. I'm really limited on space so I have to do this in stages.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Shopping for a media blast job is turning out to be a job in itself. Found a place pretty far, just for the frame and axles wants 600.00. Still shopping around while I finish stripping the frame. Should have my blasting cabnet, for small parts, finished by end of the week.

Need some minor welding work on the body mount. I'll probably wait until I get it back from the blaster, get all the rust off from around the damaged area.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Getting it ready for blasting. Also finished up my blasting cabinet and that's not the compressor I'm using, lol. Frame goes out on Wed and my neighbor just happens to be renting out his garage so I made a deal with him to store the body while I work on the chassis.

Just realized I can't upload pics via my iPhone. I'll post them later

You know, if that truck is from the Pittsburg area, it sure is relatively rust free.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Hey Tom, I picked this Blazer up in Colorado; body is pretty rust free. Removing the old seam sealer throughout the tub now, you know what they say about removing the old caulk before putting in the new, lol.

Cleaning up the frame after blasting. Also repaired the body mount bracket in the rear. Should have some primer on it soon.

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Just ran across this thread. Great truck to build and start with. I plan on pulling my frame and cleaning it up in the future when i finally throw the LS in. Have you worked on putting in the 700r4? I plan on going with the 700r4, the shorter shaft installed in the tranny, and moving the engine forward. Whats your plans on this? I wish I had those leveling mats for the bed area. Mine was missing when I bought it.

One more thing where did you source the rebuild kit for the front end?

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

Hey Kirk, I changed my mind on the auto trans, I'm keeping it stock with just a few performance upgrades. I'm keeping the 465 but I'm swapping the 10 spline for a 32, rear disc brakes, new heads and a cam and going with the Vintage air and 2.5 Skyjacker springs with 12.5 33's.

I bought my front end parts from Advance auto, Moog upper and lowers and they loaned the tools for the job.

Thanks........

Re: Yes another 72 build thread

I bent the rear body mount frame bracket back into place and welded it but it just doesn't look correct. It has a lean to it after I welded the crack so I'm guessing it was just beat to $##$ over the years so now I'm looking for a replacement if anyone has one.

I'm also looking for a clutch pivot bracket that's on the top of the frame rail on the drivers side, the one on there now is rounded out (could fab something up probably).
