Just rescued a '67 longbed stepside 2WD w/6 banger and 4 speed that was headed for the junkyard. Lots of rust in the usual places, but still pretty solid. Need info and/or pictures on things that have been done with longbed stepsides. I've been playing with 67-72's for 10 years and can't recall ever really noticing one. My limited imagination has left me with the standard restoration, but I think this truck has a lot more potential...please help

P.S. It's been 2 years since I sold my '72, it's good to be back :-)

Well Lester, welcome to the club!
When you say long bed, are you talking the 8 foot bed on the 127 inch wheel base, or are you refering to the one ton 9 foot bed on a 133 inch chassis?

It's the 127" wheelbase with 8' bed

Welcome to the board, and back to the club, Lester! Take care of that longstep, they've been the object of shameless prejudice ever since people started to fix up old pickups.

LOL

Mostly they either get cut up into a SWB or replaced with a fleetside. Show us some pics!

Ideas? I don't think longsteps look very good when they're heavily customized, but they look every bit as sharp as a fleetside when they're restored, IMO.

Welcome from Missouri, sounds like you rescued a great old truck, one thing about these old longsteps is you either love' em or hate' em..

I dont think I've ever seen one customized, mine started out as a 2 wheel drive farm truck that hadn't been driven off the farm for 7 years where it was only used for fencing, it now sit's on a 71 3/4 ton frame with 5/4 ton military cucv axle's.

IMO, the proportions of the long step just don't flow as well as the fleetsides or the short steps, but it's nice to see one in stock form once in a while... I've seen plenty of long step beaters, but I don't recall ever seeing one completely restored.... post a pic when u get the chance...
