Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"

No problem, glad I could help. You have a nice build going and I know I would rather have a soild mount than one I had to weld a patch into and wonder if it was going to hold if there ever was some kind of accident.

Worrying about stuff like that is one of the holdups on my K5 project. I keep worrying about getting the stuff mounted properly in the correct spot....

No new progress really. Trying to figure out what to do about the transmission still and working on getting the engine to actually mount. Once I get these problems resolved work should be faster.

Nice project you got going.

I probably missed it, but what color did you paint the engine?

Sorry I took so long to reply, but it's VHT, silver blue metallic or something like that. I took a picture for you. The only thing I would say is the paint turned out to be more blue than I liked. Depending on the angle you looked at it, it would look blue or silver.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"

Should have some updates in a few days. Finally got the engine to mount. Turned out my engine bracket shells were different from what I needed. Luckily I was able to find the new part number from gm for them on a different forum. I ended up tearing everything back off the engine and am currently repainting it, because I did not like the way the paint looked blue. Should have pictures in a day or two.

Finally have some pictures of the progress I made. So I finally got the shells from gm and then decided before I mounted the engine for the last time I wanted to redo the paint so I actually like it, so here are some pics of how that went.

I used a wire brush, rags and brake cleaner to get the old paint and dirt off that I didn't do the first time.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"

How did that Rust-O undercoating treat you? I am a few days out from installing a new fuel tank and want to under coat under the cab where the fuel tank is.

Sweet build! Love that engine color!

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"

Thanks for all the compliments. The undercoat seemed to work really well. I have used three different brands now so it's hard to remember what it was like, but I don't think it was as thick as some of the other ones, but it worked just fine. In the picture of the gas tank on the 2nd page you can see what it looks like. Hope this helps.

It's been a while since I updated, so I have a few things....

This is what my plan is for the bottom of the cab and bed

I just removed all the paint and oil from over the years, sprayed it with primer and then just put rubberized undercoat on it, this is only one coat.

So I have to get a truck power steering pump and reservoir, due to the ls2 one not fitting in the frame rails. I am also trying to find headers to get that will fit the truck and not hang down that far past the frame rails. So if I find some I will probably end up selling the tbss manifolds with the shields. I still need to get the transmission swapped to 2wd and mounted, and I am also going to airborne school from the 29th to 22nd so I wont get anything done while I'm there.

Thanks guys.

Well today I got the throttle body all cleaned up, painted and installed, should have pictures of that tomorrow, as well as got some more of under the cab cleaned up and painted. I ordered a truck power steering pump and pulley today, which I figured would work since that is what everyone else is using except the pulley for the truck pump is bigger, so I don't know if everything else is in the same spot as the ls2 so I would use a truck belt?

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"

Did some research and found out that the truck bracket is different than the ls2 bracket. I ordered a new truck bracket and oil filler tube from gmpartsdirect so hopefully they will be here soon. I finished up most of the work on the bottom of the cab except two spots that I want to weld shut.
