Dropped the 68 🤟

3 inch front 4 in the back . Nice and level but I may drop the front an inch or so when I buy the spindles . Now I need shocks any suggestions ? Not looking for top shelf just an ordinary shock that works with the drop

Glad it was just springs! When I saw that emoji of a hand with only 3 fingers I was assuming the worst.

Re: Dropped the 68 🤟

Looks good! I went with KYB Gas-A-Just absorbers, KG5409 on the front, KG5416 on the rear. I got mine from RockAuto, but Summit will price match if you call them.

Re: Dropped the 68 🤟

Hi Mark...attaching a couple of pics of my C20 for reference. The PO of the C10 donor chassis had cut both the front and rear springs and had some jacked up GM (non C10) spindles on the front. I got rid of that mess for CPP 2.5" drop spindles (Summit) and full length Moog front springs (also from Summit). I reused the cut springs in the rear and got lucky with a fairly good stance. Based on the comparison with your pic, I think the KYBs would work, but that might be another reason to buy from Summit as their return policy is great.

For shock information, you can go to CPP website. On there you can find for shock and spring information. Good luck truck looks awesome!

Re: Dropped the 68 🤟

Looking at the pics, I wish I had a little more sidewall to fill the wheel wells like your truck. Currently running Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 235/55R17 tires. 235/60R17 would add about 1" in tire height. If I upgrade the rear end for a posi w/3.42s then I may need tires sooner than expected.

This is my 68 C20 with 2.5" drop spindles in front and 4" springs + 1" lowering block in the rear. I like the stance of your truck!
Sorry, don't know how to turn pic

I’m running 265/70r16 they came off my Tacoma . Lock to lock no rubbing but I haven’t driven it so I can’t tell if it would rub on bumps

Re: Dropped the 68 🤟

After reading some older threads and this post by GMCPaul

ANY, I REPEAT AMY, shock that is made for your stock 1967-72 truck at normal ride height is ALSO the correct shock for those trucks with front & rear drop kits of ANY DROP Height. So if you use 1-5 1/2" drop in the front you still use the same shock. If you use 1-6" drop in the rear you still use the same shock. ECE, No limit, Classic, Brothers, everyone is selling shocks that are made to stock travel specifications. Now your asking why this is true. The reason is with any of the drops I listed above the stock shocks minimum & maximum travel distances are not exceeded. Since the shocks travel limits are still within spec, the stock shock length is still used.
NOW in the rear once you hit about a 5" rear drop the shock has become to horizontal to absorb vertical travel effectively. So you then install rear shock relocators in the rear to make the shocks more vertical again so that they can then absorb the vertical travel of the truck. ( It's also my understanding though I have not tried it yet, that if you move the rear lower shock bracket from left side to the right, and the right side to the left this will also correct the shock angle back to a more vertical position eliminating the need for rear shock relocators. ) But again I've not checked this myself on just swapping the lower mounts from 1 side to the other. I'm just reporting what I've heard from several low budget builders.
So everyone should determine the type of ride that you want based on you and your driving habits then look up the shocks and look for comfort, sport, off road etc.... based on your driving style & preference's and then purchase the stock shock for your truck in that type of shock. KYB GR-2 soft comfortable ride, KYB gas a just shocks give a firmer ride , etc.....
Then buy from who you choose. If your already buying parts from 1 location and the shocks they have only cost a little more than the cheapest place you've found get the shocks from where your buying your other parts unless your getting free shipping.
Hope everyone is Healthy, Happy, & Prosperous in 2016 and beyond.
Paul @ GMCPauls
I have decided to keep the shocks that were in it fairly new Monroe Gas shocks .

Re: Dropped the 68 🤟

Was looking into changing out the rear bumper to another one I have . But the damn this is welded to the frame with what looks to be 1/2 inch plate steel . Also the tow hitch is welded to the bumper and the frame again with heavy steel plate . So I'm just going to modify it in place cut off the wings around the lower bedside and finish it .
