Literally Nobody:

Me: so you wanna know what's in the poster tube, well here you is: these long metal sticks turned out to be the wrong parts, they are for the bottom of the glass instead of being the vertical retianers

Re: A '54 named Busty

Don't drill out the pivot. Take the rubber out and drill out the rivets under it.

Re: A '54 named Busty

this vent window is kicking my butt, but it needed doing as the rubber has perrished and is rock hard

unfortunately to get the L shaped rubber piece in we need to drill out this rivet and remove the glass

Re: A '54 named Busty

they are a huge PITA, that is why I suggest cutting the seal on the inside, to avoid separating the vent window frame. (that's my 2 cents)

Oh I hear ya, but I couldn't get the rest of the hard as a rock rubber weather strip out without removing the vent window and then drilling 37 holes in the hard black rubber to chip it out 1mm at a time

Re: A '54 named Busty

so it appears like WE ordered some wrong parts, WE ordered the rail for the bottom of the glass instead of the vertical ones that were rotted out, so whilst we wait for the new parts to show up we decided to stay busy

so got the cab weatherstrip in on the driver side, and am very pleased with it

Re: A '54 named Busty

I also tried the left over door panel trim on this lip around the windshield and really like how it turned out so I plan on running it all the way around the perimeter

Re: A '54 named Busty

Cab weather-strip looks good. Does that go in the little channel that runs on the inside of the opening?

thanks, yes sir, exactly, I used a little silicone lubricant spray and started at the B pillar and ran one direction straight down, then started in the other direction above the door and down the A pilar, they give you a strip that is about 8" too long just in case

Re: A '54 named Busty

so we threw it on there cab, like so...

just like the one that runs above the windshield it has two pinch welds on either side (where the vertical line is) so you can back cut the molding a 1/2 inch or so to get it on there flush or just have a tiny bump there

on the front one above the windshield I just so happened to have a perfect length strip to fit in between those pinch welds so I just ran three pieces, a middle one of about 2 feet and then the ones on either side above the doors

Re: A '54 named Busty

ok, looks like you dont have the metal strips that hold the center of the headliner to the top of the cab or the strip that holds the rear of the headliner to the back of the cab.
In some ways I like your idea better. Just hope the headliner doesnt fall down when you are driving.

it's all good, I think my original headliner was cardboard so I was not a big fan and therefore yanked it out

Re: A '54 named Busty

so our Mission For Today (MFT) should we choose to accept it, is to applicate and stickanate this door weather stripping to the doors of our '54

Item # K-124 1949-55 TRUCK DOOR SEAL KIT-THICKER 11/16" this is the thicker one they also offer it a thinner 1/2"

CAUTION FROM THE FUTURE ME: this proved to be an Epic Failure and a waste of money. I could not get the doors to shut with this weather strip on no matter what I did. I even tried only running it above the windows and still had to push on the doors with both hands while standing outside the vehicle to finally get them to latch, not the way you wanna haul your girls around.

and once again, Dr. J will be our tour guide 1947-55 1st series Chevy Pickup Door Weatherstrip Installation

Re: A '54 named Busty

I need to put my door rubbers on as well but it seems like the only way to do it correctly is to pull the doors off. I'm a little hesitant to do that but I think people have done it with the doors on. Only problem with doing that is getting the door edge clean enough. Looking forward to your progress and how you did it with either doors on/off.

I just tried to do it with the passenger door on and no dice, you are right

1. you can't clean the glue and grime from the previous weather strip properly behind the hinges, with the doors off you can use a wire wheel on an angle grinder and shoot some spray paint to cover the bare metal if any

2. you can't get your fingers in there to squeeze it to the door in order to get it to stick properly

taking off the door is no big deal, here is a top tip for doing it the first time, put a towel on a floor jack and gently support the door from the bottom, they won't fall off put they like to sag a tad

more importantly the door may not want to slide forward off the hinges because the door inner sheet metal got pressed in ever so slightly around them three holes at each hinge, you may need to pry it out with a flat screw driver a little bit

and finally maybe shoot some WD-40 or PBBlaster inside the doors at the hinges the night before
