Custom deluxe/20
I saw this truck for sale right down the street from me. What is a custom deluxe package? Is that 400 a big block or small block? Does it look correct and original?

We'd have to see under the hood, but it came with a BBC 400 if it came with any 400.

Custom Deluxe is one step up from the base trim level of "Custom" (it's a nice trim level, came with cloth seats) - there are four trim levels total in 71/72: Custom, Custom Deluxe, Cheyenne, Cheyenne Super. 400 badges mean it was a 402 big block truck in this era (402 replaced the 396 sometime in 1970. The 400 small blocks came out in the square era). I think it's a very nice looking truck. Stop and get a look at the SPID in the glovebox - post a pic if you can (or send me the seller's phone number...
 ). Custom Deluxe is also the only trim level with which one could get the highlander plaid seats, either as a seat trim only option or as part of the promotional packages that were offered (72-only). Only non-original item appears to be wheel color - they would have been white. Mirrors may aftermarket but certainly era-correct. Take a closer look, I doubt it will be there long!

It looks like a repaint at one time. Very solid California truck. Some pin holes in the bed floor and a hole in the right door jamb area. No more big block.

Dash pad is junk, radio cut out. High hump floor. SBC and turbo 400
