AC Compressor went out today

My A6 compressor has bit the dust again. Last time replaced was 8/23/2019. Not sure if I want to use another rebuilt one or go with another style. Found this website and wondered if anyone has used one of these before.
If anyone has had good luck with another brand, please let me know.

Re: AC Compressor went out today

Yeah my R4 has leaked from the day Dad drove it off the lot.

I'm looking at doing a Sanden conversion on his 95, but it's a lot easier to do one on a truck that already has a serpentine belt.

I haven't found anything easy for my 83 were I to want to go with something other than the R4.

Re: AC Compressor went out today

I am still trying to get my AC sorted out on 79 truck but went with a sanden compressor. I have a leak somewhere in the system, not holding vacuum. I tried one A6 on my Trans Am and it blew within a year, so not going back to that.

Would you send detailed info on the sanden you got and also about mounting hardware. Pics if you have them.

Re: AC Compressor went out today

Hey sorry I forgot to respond about what I used. I bought a mounting bracket from ebay it was like 80 dollars. I bought an all in one kit from ebay that had sanden (like) compressor, hoses, fittings and condenser for 250. I had a evaporator from a junkyard truck and that is the hardest part for me getting the fittings hooked up. If I had to do it all over again I would have bought the Nostalgic truck set up CK-7379CHPU. I have been trying to save money but so far I think I have gone above about 600 dollars and still no working AC.

Re: AC Compressor went out today

UPDATE:

Decided to bite the bullet and get the kit that I posted the link to in my first post. A bit pricey, but my AC tech had no problems installing. This unit cools a whole lot better than the old A6 ever did. When I drive it to work, it sits in the sun till 3:00. Temp is near 100. 12 mile drive home thermometer in vent shows around 50 degrees by the time I get home. Also, a lot less drag on engine. I recommend it if anyone wants to upgrade!

Depends on the size of your pulley's. Mine are all stock and really only needed a belt that is 1" longer.

Re: AC Compressor went out today

Having trouble keeping the AC system alive on my 87 too. About 4 years ago I had a reputable local mechanic fix the system, his work came with a 3 year warranty. All 3 years he had to replace something. 2 years it was the compressor. 1 year was some pin hole leak. Now he's retired and I have to find a new guy. I suspect the new guy will want some crazy number, oh say $800 to fix the system.

Cause you know, they gotta do it all. Can't just replace one thing or no warranty for you. And it's a 1 year warranty, after that you're own your own. Expect it to die after that year is up. That's been my experiences with AC repair over the years.
