.410 ammo

Hey friends. I had a cousin who passed away of a stroke back in September. His wife gave me a very nice single shot .410 breakover shotgun that he owned.

Cannot find any ammo for it at all. If any of you guys could locate some #6 shot in any brand, please advise. I’m not looking for cases of the stuff, just maybe 2 or 3 boxes of 25 shells per box.

Be advised, I am no terrorist of felon.

Re: .410 ammo

I’m a high school teacher. One of my former students works at WalMart in the hunting & fishing area. He says he hasn’t seen one box of .410 in about a year.

Re: .410 ammo

.410 shells have been hard to find for a few years now. I still have my "Montgomery Wards Western Field" (I believe made by Savage) my father bought me in 1964.

My grandmother was a country gal. She had one that she shot squirrels with out of her kitchen door out of a big pecan tree in the back yard. Those squirrels went from tree to dinner table in less than an hour!

I killed my first deer with her .410 loaded with slug ammo. Dad told me I would have to let a deer get really close to get him…..and that 6 point did get close and I got him! I remember it like it was yesterday! 1980. Hmmmmm, I’m getting old.

My uncle has the gun now. It’s still in the family.

Re: .410 ammo

The .410 has always been more expensive because they are smaller demand over 12 and 20 gauge as well as more difficult to make.

I saw a few boxes at my local wal mart a few months ago and they were about $18-$20 per box of 25. At this point a smaller shop will probably be your best bet but the price will not be ideal.

Re: .410 ammo

Checked the ammo at the local WalMart. No .410 but they did have 2 boxes of 16 gauge and some 28 gauge. Most spots were empty. Good luck on your quest.

Re: .410 ammo

^ yep - I stopped by here just to suggest ammoseek

as a few of you know I'm an avid gun collector and shoot most of them..

been able find a lot of elusive ammo types there over the years..

coincidentally I was just on there last week looking for .410 myself

but have a bucket of water handy because your wallet is going to burst into flames..

Remington 3" 6 shot is $1 a copy, junk is barely 2 bits less so I stick to the big three..

sadly these days are long gone

let's see that single shot - what make/model is it?

I'm pretty fond of the .410, shame they're 4x the cost of 12ga to shoot

top is a Mossberg 185 20ga, middle two are 183 .410, and bottom is a Stevens model 59A .410

my first shotgun, grandpa's Mossberg 183 .410 , my son loves it!

few years ago he was 7yo - his first time shooting it

Re: .410 ammo

Yeah , The prices can be higher ,But buy while you can ! Better to have it at any price than not have it when you really need it ! There's no need for gun control when ammo control is already in place , Without ammo you just own an expensive club .

You know when you live in the country when your local Ace hardware and Rural king carry a good selection of ammo !

Re: .410 ammo

I read that the main reason why not many places are carrying the 410 shells is because of first of all COVID and there is a shortage of lead ,, the other reason is not that much demand for this small shot gun shell,, but I am sure you already knew this

Covid has become the answer for all the shortages , There's no shortage of lead sinkers in the fishing dept of any sporting goods store . Steel shot required for water fowl hunting isn't in short supply ? Brass isn't in short supply still used for plumbing fixtures ? Covid was the biggest fraud pulled on the masses ever .

Re: .410 ammo

I purchase most of my ammo from rogers sporting goods. Free shipping on a case. They currently do not have any #6. They do have plenty of #9's though.
Keep an eye out periodically the #6's will show up there.

Re: .410 ammo

Thanks to all of you for helping me out. We had an ice storm here in south Arkansas Wednesday night and my power has just now come back on. Big Thank You to crews out of Monroe, LA, who spent most of the last two days in my neighborhood.

I’ll find some .401, or sell the gun. No point in having it if I can’t use it. Kinda like keeping an old truck that won’t run.
