Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

Just to clarify...this member started this thread to see if there are any hubcaps that will work with the 6-lug 4wd GM truck rallye wheels that he has and many run on the 6-lug C/10s. In other words,he has wheels and just wondered if there were any hubcaps he could look for that will fit.
Unfortunately these wheels were not designed to accept hubcaps. Any of the various 6-lug center caps will work. I'm sure someone could come up with a way to fasten hubcaps. But remember, these wheels have a raise ridge in the center and a regular dog dish hubcap will sit out really far. You would probably want to use a hubcap made for car rallyes, like the ones Wheel Vintiques sell. i saw a guy with an Advance Design truck running truck rallyes use three panhead screws to hold car rallye caps on.

Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

Anything can be done, but it's not always easy. These are 57 GMC hubcaps that normally require clips to attach. Unfortunately nobody makes a 5 on 5 wheel with clips yet that will go over my brake discs/drums (old ones have a taper that won't go over modern brakes, and most are 6 lug, new ones don't come in 5 on 5 bolt pattern) so I had to use homemade adapters to attach them to a set of steelies that fit my rig. Using dog dish hubcaps on rallys would probably require something similar.

Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

I think you need to reread my original statement in which I said I was building a "BBC" (key word BBC) 68 P/U w COPO hubcaps. I totally understand what COPO means, but that is what these caps are refered to. You knew which cap I was talking about when you threw out that loaded question, so you have obviously heard them called this. I have been collecting parts and researching this build for 3 years know and still can not even find a pic of a 396 in a half ton P/U that was original to a 68 so I am getting most of my technical info from the 68 El' Camino. I also did a quick google search of 1968 COPO trucks and found zip except a threat from this website from 2008 in which you were involved.and much like now throwing out a lot of unrealted facts and never backing anything up but with your thoughts of what would have been. The guys in that forum also got tired of listing to your rambles as am I. Besideds this is my build and whats it to you I dont understand all your negativity are you the COPO police or something. I have had the truck since I was 14 so I know it well. I also have a 91' 454 SS and a 03' 6.0L SS, so really my intent was to build a 1968 SS the way GM would have done if that had buit one to add to my collection, MY COLLECTION!

Sorry to take this time up in this tread this guy's so back to the question at hand. When Delmo had his 64-65? pick up in that magazine that was pasted on the cover of this website with those sweet looking rims I sent him a meesage about them bc I liked them. They were 20 or 22'' aluminum rims with old hubcaps mounted to them. So I would PM Delmo, someone who has done this type of work and ask him how he would do it

Like I said, your COPO caps, are base model hubcaps for the cars you see them on.
And, like I said, there were thousands of COPO trucks built in the 67 - 72 model year trucks.

Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

Yaeh, sorry man its your thread and its is a good one bc a lot of people are interested in it. I just let that guy get under my skin. Dont back out of this thread, I will. The info is needed and if someone has a way of doing such it would be nice to know. I would check with Delmo though, he's the man!

Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

Are those caps not as tall as the Derby caps, that Vetts and Camaros uses? I also looking for an alternative to standard Rally caps. I really like the flat caps that The El camino uses in 67, but they won't clear the Front hubs.

Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

Regarding the COPO hub caps, to be fair, if you google COPO hub caps about 3/4 of the first 100 pictures that come up are of the Camaro hubcaps, or of a COPO Camaro. It's just one of those things that has caught on and stuck, to the point that almost everybody knows what you are talking about. It's just like "409 hub caps". There never was such a thing, but when you say it people know what you mean. 409's even came in tractor trailer cabs, but everyone knows a 409 hub cap is the poverty caps you got in 62, which you also got if you didn't order any other type of wheel cover.

It's basically covered here:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=244882

I just used the same adapters with a set of steel wheels. It's not perfect, but it looks ok until something better comes along. I'm planning on painting the wheels body color soon...too much white with the whitewalls.

Re: Hub caps with Rally wheels???

Check out mine when you guys get a sec. Pretty cool 'twist' on the GM Truck rally wheel center cap. (... in my build thread. I'm on another pc without the actual pictures to post in this thread) I can either hook you up with a set of your choice (5/6 lug) or I have a .pdf of how to make your own I will be happy to share.

Just something a little different.

Another pic of dgwills adapters. Looks like he cut some plates out of aluminum and bought some clips to screw in place. I believe those clips are sold on ebay also. The same type used by others to put caps on billet smoothies.
