WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

I really need some 13" (x2-1/2") brake drums for an Eaton HO72; the full floating one ton rear. All my drums are shot. If someone has some they'd let me have for a reasonable price, it would really help me out.

Thanks

Have you thought about just upgrading the whole rearend to a 14-bolt?

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

No real reason to; it's already a 4.10:1 rear. If I had a 4.10 C&C 14 bolt laying around with heavier springs and good drums I might, but I don't as of right now. (Only a cab and chassis dually 14 bolt will work due to width)

I just need to find the guy that swapped a good Eaton for a 14 bolt and I'm set. A couple good drums and I'll be good for another 48 years.

Yeah, it stinks I scrapped all my Eaton.
I would of just sent them to you for the cost of shipping.

I have a couple eaton rears out of a 63 chevy and 65 gmc duallys up in the junkyard I can see about pulling the drums and check them out for you. I don't know what condition they are in. I wont be able to do that till next weekend though. Let me know if you want me to. Thanks Lyle

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

Thanks Lyle; what do you think you'd want for them if they're good? I know shipping's going to be kind of brutal; those things aren't all that light. A guy in WV said he might have some, but if he doesn't then you're first in line.

The parts are free if you pay for my time to disassemble and measure. Probably 1 to 2 hours at $20 per hour.

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

You can swap 14 bolt brake assemblies onto the eaton. Use the eaton hubs amd 14 bolt drums and backing plates. Im betting you have the 9/16 studs because of the big drums.

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

Sounds good, Lyle; do I still have to pay if they are unusable?

obijuan; all the old trucks used 1/2"-20 studs, duallys included. (IIRC '71 was when you got 9/16" studs.) That's my backup plan, though.

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

Lol. Sounds great, thanks. BTW, I have another dually with totally shot drums on it, so if you want pull all of them off and check them out, go for it. I also could use the hub bearing adjusting nuts/washers. (Seems like the PO figured that some of them were superfluous, lol.)

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

This may be too late for you but someone might need this. I watched online and when Autozone put their 20% off free shipping $100. Bought new drums for a total of about 80$, as I recall. They shipped those drums (probably 60# plus) Fedex 3 day. Probably cost as much to ship as I paid for the drums.

Re: WTB Eaton HO72 brake drums (8 lug one ton)

Welcome to the forum!

blk65k10 has a couple he's going to send me; this is a one ton truck, and I'm pretty sure the rear drums are not even made anymore.

Mine is a 83 GMC C3500 1 ton dually (same 73-87 I think). However, you have the earlier vintage and I imagine you are right.
