I have a 65 short fleet with at this time 3 inch drop in front and 4 in rear but want to do a drop spindle and block in rear for a 5-6 or 7 drop and have a 72 rear end was wandering if any of you hade problems removing rear wheels from under the bedsides I plan to use 18x8 and 18x9.5 ridlers. thanks for any advice

I have to squeeze my 8 inch rim and tire into the rear well. I have 5" drop springs in back.

Yes! Issues including getting the axle low enough to get a 295/45/18 out. I use a 4x4 across rear of frame or jack frame right in front of tire. The frame tends to bend there, so I plan on boxing frame.

It wasn't a problem on air ride but without it it is a PIA, you have to jack body up and let rear end hang.

I find it helps to jack up the frame only on the side you are trying to remove the tire. That way the weight of the truck is on the other side which will push the wheel down on the side you are jacking up.

Thanks for all the advice I hade this in mind also to remove the lower shock nut and slide the shock off to let the axle drop lower. Think it would help?

Like other have mentioned, it is challenging. Mine is 6" drop springs, 275/60x15 on 8" wide wheels. You must jack from the side frame rail and it lets the tire drop just barely enough to get it out (2nd picture). I have not had a flat yet, so not sure how it will work out in real life.

I have to unbolt the shocks and disconnect the driveshaft to drop the rearend housing far enough.

Thanks that is what I was thinking would help get the tire out but needed to get advice from you all that have done it

I was just barely able to get my rears on. I used a floor jack on the trailer hitch and lifted it from there. It worked perfect.

I have seen people have to remove shocks so the rear end will drop down more. That kinda makes roadside changes not possible.

Jack the truck, put the jackstands forward of the rear axle, up as high as you can in order to get the rear to droop. Disconnect the shock on the side that you need to remove the wheel. If that's not enough, get a cargo strap and loop it around the frame rail and axle housing on the opposite side to compress the coil, which will lower the "remove" side. A real pain in the butt, that's for sure!

I guess a lot of it will depend on the diameter of the wheel, over all tire height, and width. Mine is only lowered 4" in the back, but they both will come off with a jack under the pumpkin. They are 275/60-15's on an 8" wheel. I let the wheel drop down off of the lugs then push the bottom inwards and the tire will just clear the fender lip. I would have to come up with something else if shock removal had to happen.

Air ride, just max out ride height and my 20x10 wheel with 275's come out fairly easy.
