re- attaching e-brake on drums

I can,t get the spring to collapse on the e-brake cable to re-install the e-brake arm. I watched some videos on rebuilding brakes but they pull the cable off but never show you how to re-attach it. I tried pulling on the spring with pliers but it is way too tight. Special tool needed or what .

Re: re- attaching e-brake on drums

You can get some slack in the rear cables by disconnecting the front cable from the center cable at the tension adjuster. If you don't feel like doing that, then you can scrunch the spring up using your palm and fingertips. It's not easy, but it is possible.

I,ve tried that with vice grips, pliers, you name it. I guess I will have to loosen the cable. Thanks
