? for you 700r4 transmission gurus,WILL NOT UPSHIFT

I found a 1990 K CASE 700r4 core with aux. valve body to replace my th 350. so I rebuilt it with a kit from ct transmissions in CA.which contained the raybestos Z pak for 3rd/4th gear this was a trans tec kit.put in a trans go 700 k shift kit.replaced the seperator plate with a trans go p plate AND USED THE VALVE BODY GASKETS THAT CAME IN THE KIT.followed it to a t I think.NEW SONNAX 730 governor AND A SONNAX .500 PRESSURE REGULATOR VALVE and used the spring that come with it.USED THE BOWTIE OVERDRIVES TV EZ KIT.The pressures look good .so I can not get it to upshift,so I pulled the governor out of the th 350 which is new and it still will not upshift could the governor springs and weights be keeping it from upshifting.Any suggestions.thanks in advance Jeff

I forgot to mention the trans core had a TCI decal on the case and it also had a .890 pin blocking the line bias valve,I removed it and installed the spring that come in the trans go kit

Need more info to help out....

TV cable....present ? Attached ? Adjusted correctly?
Governor ....did you check the ports are not blocked off in the case?

Was the case converted to full manual function?
Reverse valve body function?

yes it has the bowtie overdrive ez cable system and I set it 2 psi over idle pressure and the idle pressure was 107 psi. No I did not check for plugs in the governor ports.I am going to try another governor tomorrow, were would they be plugged at,how do you tell if the case was converted to full manual,The valve body looked normal but they did have the line bias valve blocked with a pin which I removed when installing the shift kit.

Re: ? for you 700r4 transmission gurus,WILL NOT UPSHIFT

Bigdav160 has a valid point.
Just helped a friend that had a 700r4 that wouldn't shift consistently. Turned out the little metal wire that connects the TV valve to the cable was bent and causing a binding. Re-bent the wire and all is well. Found it with the pan off and one person on the throttle and me underneath. I had also suspected the TV valve sticking.
I hope your issue is as easy as this one.
I also hope you have a pan drain!

When I work on these I am always relieved when the transmission hasn't been messed with. Opens up a whole new set of issues especially if modified from stock in any way. BTW, mismatched pump half's will cause the same no upshift issue. However the pressure will be low.
Cheers.

The TCI shift kit I installed in my 700R4 when I rebuilt it said to eliminate the MTV Up spring. What do the instructions say for the TransGo kit you installed?

Looks like the TransGo 700 kit instructions tell you to install a long orange spring on the MTV Up valve.

The shift kit I put in was a trans go 700 jr. I typed in the wrong one in my opening post,My bad,So with that spring missing would that cause it not to up shift unless you let off the gas.

I tried to remove the MTV UPVALVE TRAIN VALVE and after I got the aluminum plug out there is a half round steel sleeve that keeps the valve from coming out.must be part of tci kit ?

The current valve body is an unknown build so you may end up chasing your tail trying to work the mods out.

I suspect the simplest way to proceed is to grab another standard valve body and place the shift kit contents into the new valve body.

Pull the governor and blow compressed air thru the ports to make sure they haven't been blocked off.

Make sure the pressure pump valve is assembled correctly.
