Steering Column and Steering Wheel Problem

Can someone help me figure this column out?
While working on my cluster lights I took the steering wheel off and lowered the column. Now I am attempting to put the steering wheel back on but nothing seems to be lining up properly. When I bolt the steering wheel on (it is a grant steering wheel), the cover between the wheel and column rubs the column when turning. Also, the gear indicator is not lining up.
Not sure if this is the problem, but behind the part where the turn signal mechanism is, there are a couple of cut outs, that look as if they are supposed to align with some tabs on the column. (pics) Do the cut outs go over the tabs?
I have been messing with this for a couple of hours now and searched here with no luck.
This all worked perfectly before I took it apart.

Re: Steering Column and Steering Wheel Problem

For those that care, I figured it out. I attached the turn signal switch before putting the switch housing back where it went. Apparently that was preventing the switch cover from seating properly.
