Front bumper replacement

Hey everybody! So, I’m working on replacing the front bumper that’s been bent up from my high school days of smashing into things and I’m curious if there’s anything else I should do whilst I have the front end torn off. I plan on putting back on my radiator screen that was removed and never put back on when I replaced the motor. Any other suggestions as to what else I oughta do? I appreciate the feedback. I always get great advice from you guys on here. Thanks!!

I've also found working in the garage upside down helps for when you drop sockets.

Damn these photos. Sheesh.

Re: Front bumper replacement

The front end is pretty simple, and if everything is in good shape, then there's not much to do. Except for the fenders, the forward section of the truck doesn't really see a lot of rust. But if you're looking for something, here's a few things I did to the 68 when I replaced the front grille.

- Cleaned up and painted radiator core support
- Replaced core support mounts
- Redid wiring and cleaned up turn signal assemblies. Replaced the lenses as well.
- Replaced sway bar bushings
- In your case you could polish and paint the grille, replace emblems and such.

Basically just clean, polish, paint and do general repairs and replace anything worn or damaged on all the stuff that's now easily accessible. Put it back to the way it came from the factory and it'll last you another couple of decades.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

Re: Front bumper replacement

Since you have the easier access and I would pull the battery and its tray. Then clean and neutralize the residual battery acid in the area under the battery and on its tray. Take a close look at the core support as it is susceptible to rusting away from acid exposure.

This is good advice from HO455.

In addition to cleaning/painting, I also replaced my core support mounts when I had everything out.
