Lot of damage that occured was not done by the assembly plant, but by the auto haul away operation. Dealership body shops did most of the bondo repair work and paint work. Loading and unloading in very narrow trailers with beams all over the place and the intransit damage from not securing them properly left many imperfections that dealerships were forced to repair in order to make the sale. "What the new buyers don't know won't hurt them".

Yeah, that's what I figure happened to the door I have. I've heard tales from guys who worked at dealership body shops of cars (Cadillacs) falling off the carrier onto their side. Extensive body work, then put out for sale same as the rest.
When I ordered the '92 GMC K3500 I finally got a call from my salesman (took 6 months). He said, "I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is your truck came in. The bad news is we're going to have to paint your driver door. Our guy gouged the paint installing the mirror (camper/towing). Here we have these great new fasteners, at the time, called torx heads, yet he let it run out and tore up my paint

 I was working at a Chevrolet dealership and was backing a Camaro out of the display lot to work on it, and ran it into the side of another Camaro. Embarrassing, to say the least.

i did find the repair. the paint is very old and hard to tell it was not original. I'm guessing someone backed into the side of the burb. probably very early in its life.
