72super, I'm glad it worked out for you. I liked Jerrys attention to detail too. Glad you finally have a radio that work.

The total was $170.75 including the return shipping. When I first asked for a quote, Jerry stated without seeing it in person and going by description I gave him, he quoted me $150.

Thanks,

This particular radio I have had since 93-94. It was under the seat of an 1972 Cheyenne Super truck I bought years back. The dial wouldn't switch from AM to FM, so I pulled the faceplate off to see it I could at least get it to work, but the cord was broken. Well I just left it on my work bench for many years until recently. I had misplaced the screws that held the faceplate on and one of the volume control nuts,it had over spray on it, even on the lens etc. Jerry was a little scared to buff the Lens, but it came better than he anticipated it would. I haven't hooked it up yet as I don't have an usable speaker here, but I am really happy with the overall appearance.

Thanks to everyone for all the references and recommendations. I am sure the other places / people do great work too, I just felt confortable going with Jerry.

From my experience I definitely recommend Jerry and will use him again in the future.

Thanks to member (dads longhorn) for recommending Electrodesign.

Here are a couple pictures. I didn't have anything replated.

Thank,
Ray
thanx for this info!!

Ray thanks for sharing the helpful follow-up. I've got an AM/FM that could use some detailing. Did you have an MP3/aux jack installed?

Pete, no I didn't on that one pictured. I may have Jerry rebuild the one in my 72 4x4 I just got recently and I will have him to install an MP3/aux jack in that one as I plan or driving this truck a bit more daily.

Jerry is a great guy to work with!

Thanks,
Ray

Just a FYI. I emailed Jerry for a quote and he responded saying he doesn't do anything except for Corvette radios any more.

Re: Factory AM/FM Radio restoration

I recently had Greg at SM Electrotech redo another OEM AM/FM radio and am very pleased with his work: http://www.turnswitch.com/

He sells USA made repro speakers for our trucks that sound a lot better than the OEM examples.

Re: Factory AM/FM Radio restoration

You could also go with Gary Tayman radio conversions. He takes stock am radios and converts them to am/fm radio with all new radio parts and guts and has iPod connection, Bluetooth, and it keeps the original am faceplate and all the original buttons and knobs and they work as original. He does am/fm radios too. I had a retro sound for 5 years and really didn't like it at all so I sent my am radio out and has it converted and I am amazed at how nice it is and how good the sound is and it's cheaper than evereybody else at only $385 or so. It had multiple inputs for things like subs, and extra speakers. I LOVE mine

Re: Factory AM/FM Radio restoration

If you're not concerned with keeping the original radio Mike Hagan builds a very high quality radio. I replace my factory am radio with one of his over the summer and the quality is top notch. Its virtually identical to the original with digital internals. These are hand build to order and well worth the cost and wait. Just a thought
