Re: Tire Size Lowering 69 C20

What size tires are on it now? Do you plan on using it like a truck? IE: do you need load capacity or are you considering passenger car tires? What gears are in the truck and do you need tire height to knock the RPM down?

On my 70 C2500 GMC I left it stock in front and did 1 1/2" lowering shackles in the rear. (Leaf spring truck) With 265 75 16 on 16x8 inch Alcoa rims. I had 3.54 gears in the Dana 60. My truck was a 7500 GVWR truck (maximum for the platform) with a big block and air so it had the heaviest rated springs for a 2500.

Keeping in mind it's a 3/4 ton truck, I'd go with 215 75 16 or 225 75 16 tires with at least a D rating in your case. 215's gives you about a 28 1/2" tire height compared to the 31 1/2" height on my 265's.

I ran into very few choices for wheels and tires with stock 16.5's so went to a 17' wheel...lots more choices now. Still a hauler but I can put larger tires on rear. Good luck with your choices.

225-75R16, load range E, got the tires for free and like the size on the truck. One coil cut from the front big block springs that are now supporting a 350, about a 2.25" shackle drop in the rear. Might pull a leaf out of the rear to level it a bit more. The first pic is right after chopping the springs.

Truck has an incomplete body lift that I am removing and returning to stock.

Re: Tire Size Lowering 69 C20

Decide if you want to keep truck tires on it or passenger tires is the first step. I don't think a tire shorter than 28" looks right on these trucks keeping this in mind.

Re: Tire Size Lowering 69 C20

1969chev, how did you get it that low? What is your rear end gears? I'm kind of limited with 4:10 gears so I need a taller tire.

Well my truck has factory 4.10s, I'm the 2nd owner but i think the 1st owner swapped the 4.10s with 3.73s. And i have 3 inch lowering springs with a full coil cut in the front, and 5 inch lowering springs out back with 2 inch blocks. I dont have a c-notch, but i sometimes hit my axle on my frame.
