Stepside fuel filler spillage on right turns

Every time I fill up my 68 stepside I have to drive very carefully on right turns until the tank is down 20% or I get gas dribbling out of the filler neck. It makes a mess and probably terrifies the guy driving behind me in his Tesla. Anybody figure our an easy cure for this problem? I see online a company named PERKO who make fuel inlet check valves, apparently for the boating industry. ANybody ever try one of the in the hose between the tank and the filler neck?

It’s your cap.
I had the problem through three different caps, to the point that I was going to relocate the tank.
I never got around to it bur bought a STANT cap. I haven’t had a problem since, and even bought an extra for later.

Yup, it's the cap. Same problem on my truck, and the locking caps got to **** too. I don't buy locking caps, as a result.

National Parts Depot sells a thin rubber gasket to replace the cracked old rubber gaskets in this type gas cap.
Good news, they're only a dollar.
Bad news, they warp after a couple of months exposed to ethanol fumes.

While they're still good, you'll get a whoosh of vapor popping out when you open the cap. No more wet wingtips.

I keep a sheet of Viton for just such purposes. The gasket on my new cap was warped and messed up in just a few months so I used it as a template to make a new one.

Go to Napa and get a new cap. Go to Ace hardware and get a new gasket. Ace actually sells something that works in this application

Been going on 2 years with mine. I made up another just in case. Rip that crappy Napa gasket off the gas cap immediately. The one you will replace it with is about 1/16 to 1/32 thicker and will make a excellent seal. The Ace gasket is either viton or nitrile and will last.

Check out Grainger or McMaster Carr. I think that’s where I got mine years ago.

From driving a 67, 70 and the 71 NEVER TOP THE TANK OFF, I am from those day that it wasn't full until it was full but when the nozzle kicks off that is it, you don't round it up or top it off.

My 71 doesn't have a seat tank now it has a 30 gallon stainless tank in the front of the bed that is just as much of a pain with it's rather short filler neck. It's hard to get the "just right" amount of gas in it when you fill it.

Mine leaked yesterday but I forgot to put the cap on , it was spectacular . Guy was talking to me about the truck at the station and I just jumped in and left . Cap was still sitting in the pocket of the rail .

They won't. You type in Chevrolet and the next box, 'MAKE' stalls. Just to check I tried Checker [as in cabs] and they make all kinds of anti-splash nozzles for them. You might be able to kitbash their product onto an in-bed tank, but if they don't support Chevy, I wouldn't bother.

As far as over filling my in-cab tank. I usually just go to the first tenth of a gallon above the click-off. If I'm on the road and gonna hit the freeway right after topping off, I'll go all the way. Usually in the Summer I won't cram the fuel, as -- even with the best sealed gas cap -- once the whole body gets heated up by the Sun, it will seep out.
NO Smoking around a leaky gas cap.
