Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

I would consider a front axel anti wrap system like your rear bars aswell. to avoid breaking parts I have found that the straighter you can run your drive shafts the less they will break. droping the front or tieing it down usualy helps load tranfer to the rear resulting in a more ballanced ground pressure between front and rear.

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

I plan on running roughly 800lbs or so on the front end (will have to see what the final weight of the truck is). Probably will run both the 6500lb class and the 7500 lb class.
I did think about running a front traction bar but decided not to. Maybe I will wish I would have??

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

I designed them and had them cut out locally on a table. I think I have the file I can send you if you have someone that can cut them out for you. Be carful and make sure you mock them up with the inner fender as it should fit tight against it. Also on the driver side you have to position it to clear the steering shaft. Other than that they are simple and look better than a hoop in my opinion.

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

Is it the pics or are the front shocks inboarded a lot?

Any pics of the mounting set up on the axle?

Cool build, looking forward to seeing it pull.

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

As it sits in the garage today:

All the body is on just having a hard time aligning the passenger side door!! I can stick my fingers in the lower portion of the darn thing. Cant figure it out. Plus I need to shim the cab and bed to match the front clip.

Interior and all new wiring is done, just need to hook up the hot wires and make sure nothing melts.

Hydroboost is 95% complete, need to cut one more stainless steel return hose and install, then bleed the system.

Remote Transmission cooler is installed just need to build a rock shield for it since it is under the bed, and then finish hooking up the 6AN lines for it.

Bumpers can go on once I finish with the body panels.

We are close to having this thing back on the road just alot of smal details I want complete first.

THEN I still need to finish the front weight bumper, driveshaft loops and the rear bump stops before she can be hooked to the sled.

I will try and get some more pics posted within a week or so. I am suppose to be off all next week so maybe she will be ready to do a burnout soon!!!!!!!!

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

Eturnit3 - The factory bumper will always be there, I have designed the weight bumper/bracket to hang below the factory bumper, so that when on the street it looks better.

The rear cover will be at the axle end only for now as that is the end that will break long before the transfer case end breaks. But for the rear I had Kurt at DIY4x4 cut me a flat plate that will bolt to the front flange bolts that surrond the pinion on a 14 bolt. I will then weld a 8'' piece of pipe around that. Use 4 studs and slide the gaurd over it. It is kind of hard to explain without pictures. I will try and take some pics once I get it going but that could be a couple of weeks. As far as the front goes again I am only worried about the axle end and the only thing I know to do there is drill some holes in the pinion flanges. Again without pics it is hard to describe. A good place to look is Competitiondiesel.com they have a whole section dedicated to driveshaft loops.

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

Strap the front axle to the frame as tight as you can, you will REALLY want the front end tight and low! I hope you don't have to much tire. Can't wait to see some updates. When I had my pulling truck my pulling hitch mounted in between the rear frame wells about 1ft from the rear of the truck, very high, had to cut a whole out of the bed to put the hook on. If you arn't running ladder bars you can use a chain and binder to chain the rear axle back to the pulling hitch to keep it from wrapping to hard, little things that work...

If you can't run blocks you will want a leaf pack that is so think and rock hard that nothing can squat it, the way it looks you will have the front end off the ground.

Re: Part Time Pulling Truck Build

I have not been able to work on my weight bumper since the truck was completed but all the pieces are sitting on the garage floor waiting to be welded together. To get a good look at some real pulling truck weight bumpers go to this site http://www.competitiondiesel.com/for...read.php?t=881

Tractor weights are the way to go if you have them, I had a lead on some 3''x3'' solid steel bars that I had cut to 40'' for my weight. I think I have around 1200lbs worth
