aftermarket radio
i have installed a radio in the glove box and it sucks to reach across and open everytime i need to change cd or station or volume
does anyone know of a aftermarket system to control volume externally or how i can make my AM radio knobs work?? p.s-i have a remote but it won't work unless it is pointed at it and it is a pioneer head unit THANKS pete |

You could get a frequency remote which doesn't have to be pointed at the head unit, just close enough to recieve the signal. Hidden audio, I think is one of the manufactors that have this option, and I would think Pioneer would too, but you would need a compatable head unit.

I have a Sony CD head unit that had an option for a wired remote. I have the remote mounted to the steering column and it lets me do anything but change the discs.

maybe they have remote extenders like for a home enertainment cabinet. I have one for home that you place one eye in the cabinet near your stereo and the other is in the open to "receive" your signal from the remote....might work

I have the glove box mount and I have come acrooss a remote eye that works from ebay. Havent tried it though, I dont drive my truck every day either

There was a post on the board awhile back about this. I don't have the link to the post, but I kept this link on how to make a remote repeater setup. I can use my remote that came with my Pioneer cd player with the glovebox door shut. http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref26.html You can buy the components online seperately pretty cheap. I ended up buying a PAC IR-X http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-IR-X-Infrare...QQcmdZViewItem on EBAY and wired it up using the diode and resistor setup. PAC does recommend some type of spike filter in older automotive applications. I opted for the cheap glovebox radio setup, but the remote repeater is a must have.

i have the same set up (radio bracket) except i set it closer to driver so i can reach it

Mine was free from Crutchfield when I bought my cd player. I have seen them on EBAY. They're made to mount a radio under the dash.
