Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

Dumb question, but does the brace go inside or outside the fender lip? Not trying to thread jump, might help the op as well

Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

Once in a while; working on this truck makes me feel like I really have some kind of problem with my cognitive abilities..

Like when I noticed my fender braces were missing ('70 longbed, fleetside), and so ordered a pair from LMC..

One week later , got the new braces in my hand; wiggled under the truck; look around for a few minutes - I have no clue where these things go.

There are two holes on each one; how hard can this be? But nope... cannot figure it out.

I put the two braces back in the junk drawer and there they have sat for the past year..

So count me in too for needing a photo or two on this one..

Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

While the picture below does not directly answer the OP's request for a measurement, it may answer some of the subsequent questions in other posts. The picture, which is the best I can come up with, shows the brace (looks like an angled black line in the pic) in front of the right rear wheel on my 69 long bed. The lower end of the brace is inside the lip on the bed. The bolt is inserted from the bottom with the nut above the lip and lower end of the brace. Your beds, if original, should have a hole already drilled in the lip an inch or 2 from the wheel opening. I don't have access to my truck to take measurements, but the OP should get really close by installing the brace on the bed lip and pivoting the brace upward to the inside of the nearest bed cross sill.

EDIT: Mine is a wood floor bed if that matters.

Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

Funny, I got to the point of installing mine when I was putting things back together (multi-year restore) and I could only find one of them, so every so often I would ask for one here on the board, check craigslist etc., and finally found one! It showed up in the mail, shot it with some paint, installed one side and then... crap, no wonder I only had one, my aux fuel tank is where this new one is supposed to go!

Not sure which measurement you mean, but here's a start. Doesn't look like it from this angle, but that's the screw hole, all measured on center.

Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

Old thread but had the information I needed. (I love this site) Thanks for posting the pic and info I was looking for Dazza.

Went from a long bed to short bed and new metal bed base has no hole for the fender brace.

My Woodall floor has the holes with the weld nuts installed. What brand bed floor did you buy?

Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

Stovebolt,
I got my kit from SOKY and I know the outer fenders are Woodall. Can't remember what brand the bed is but I will double check for the hole once it quits raining. I may have just been looking in the wrong place.

Re: rear fender brace specs anyone??

Checked the bed yesterday and found the hole. Looked down the sill rail and seen that it had a nut welded in place.
