68 hood with no trim

I put the hood on Saturday afternoon but I’m thinking I should paint the underside of the front lip white . Not sure if it’s correct or not but think it would look better . What are your thoughts ?

Re: 68 hood with no trim

If there is no trim going around the perimeter, I would say yes. The fender-to-hood line is offset. No idea how it's supposed to be, either.

Re: 68 hood with no trim

I have a local truck buddy that had one made. Looks great, but if I remember correctly (been a bit since I looked at it), the original vin tag was a combo of stampings and painted letters and numbers. His was all stamped, no paint like original had. People with no clue would have no idea, especially if rosette rivets were used. Personally not something I would use, hate to get caught even if it was used as a legit replacement for a damaged one.

Re: 68 hood with no trim

Was the white originally painted in the grille area with no surround trim or did the two go hand in hand? I'd paint white the same as the fenders have white.

Re: 68 hood with no trim

I think either way you would be fine. And honestly, there aren't that many examples of white painted grill surronds on non trim trucks.
I did find one and it was painted.

I like the way this blazer was done. Not sure if it is stock that way but it looks good to me.

And another one that is SUPPOSED to be mostly original paint.

To get that look which I really like I would need to repaint the fenders which I really dont like. Might be able to back tape at the ridge line but it may or may not look good

Nice C/5 but it cannot be stock, as Chevy Blazers came out in Model Year 1969.

How much hassle is it to add the anodized aluminum molding?

I removed it all . I dont care for it on a stepside since there are no side mouldings to blend it

I get it. It's just that Chevrolet put the nose and eyebrow moldings on all MY '68s. Even my '68 C/10 stepside that was an obvious fleet truck -- all manual, no radio, no A/C, just a municipal 516 Orange paint job -- still has the trim.
I've seen some '68s without it, but I'm pretty sure they were owner-removals.
Your truck. Your call.

Well aware of this, I know more about blazers and jimmy's than I do the trucks! I was referring to the paint breaks on non trim 68 hoods/grills. But I think the break is correct because I found these pics also.

Cool pic. That could be my truck, but it has no anodized aluminum trim and is not a stepside. And my front bumper was White, not Argent. Same WC Jr mirrors. Same Orange 516.

Looking closer, the Grille Hoops appear to be the MY '67 type, with a D-cross section [and in steel]. The '68 MY type trim on hoops, eyebrows and hood lip had an irregular cross section. An extra ridge for stability not needed on the steel hoops.

So I guess I'm wrong in assuming all '68s came with the nose trim.

My truck is a very early 68 it had the moldings but it has a lot of 67 only items . Had 67 armrests the 67 style cowl vents and the doors are 67 with some type of modification to use 68 handles . I’ve got several doors on hand and have replaced handles on my other trucks and none of them have this stamping

I’m going to paint the lip white at some point seems like the easiest solution.
