Re: Pics Thread:A Motor A Day

yes sir,it took a Chevrolet to make a blue oval run.then years later,Duntov, the Corvette guy was involved with the Ardun flathead cylinder head conversions to to the flathead v-8's run although they didn't run like Duntov planned, likely cause he didn't have much to work with??.great stuff.

Re: Pics Thread:A Motor A Day

Yep, those were the early days before they knew any better . I went to a Model A club get together a couple winters ago with a friend. It was held at a member's place with a very interesting collection of vehicles. Not just Ford stuff. He had a boat-tail race car based on a Model A that had the Chevrolet head. The solid disc Chevrolet wheels as well. Those were a favorite for racers back when most everything still ran spokes.

Here's one of those Ardun head flatties

And another interesting modified flathead

Not sure how I missed this one but there is really cool iron being shown here. Love that 426 Wedge engine! Not near as exotic as some of the engines shown here but here is a pic of my 57 2dr sedan with a bored and cammed 283 and dual Carter WCFBs sitting on top of a stock 57 2x4s intake. Got the intake in a parts swap years ago and built two carbs using three carbs to do it with. Old school Appliance headers, Muncie 4 speed and 3:55 posi.

Re: Pics Thread:A Motor A Day

That SBC hemi is pretty interesting Tim.

855 Cummins NG/TA running an HG 24 LeRoi screw compressor with versatrol… that’s oil and gas lingo for moving about 4 million feet of gas a day if the ratios are right.

I think this one is a Ford 300 built to 700hp. IIRC, it is the one I read about recently

Hmm, a motor/engine picture a day from the day this thread started means there should be about 5000 pictures. Someone out there is slacking.

Tell you what, Mark. Do the math on exactly how many motors we should have, count how many are in the thread, subtract that number from the total, and let me know how many I need to post to get caught up and I'll take care of it

Nice, I was actually looking at a core 3516 the other day. The 35 series are absolute beasts no doubt. Some crazy madman inside of me wants to overhaul one just so I can say I’ve done it. I’ve built a ton of different industrial engines, just not one from the 35 series.

Tim, that M/T small block is bad ass! I wonder what kind of power they were able to get out it.

This is one of my favorites, from the RCR museum in Welcome NC. I could spend all day in there reliving the Earnhardt and Kevin Harvick RCR days. GM and allegedly 4 of the top Chevy/Pontiac Cup teams from those days designed it and RCR built this particular SB-2 358 CI Nascar Winston Cup series spec small block Chevy. They ran them from ‘98 thru ‘06. ‘07 brought the still in use R07 engine. Probably a Jericho 4 speed behind it.

Those headers are works of art.

Here is some big late model GM iron. A pair of Detroit Diesel 16V4000's in the Mighty Marshall Foss. They are rated at 3125 horsepower each. Blown and turbocharged!
Last photo is one of the John Deere generators.

https://www.tugboatinformation.com/tug.cfm?id=1258&fs

I've overhaul dozens of 3500's, 379's, 398's and 399 Cats. Some Detroit's in the 271 to 8v71 range but none of the big Detroit MTU's like these.

Re: Pics Thread:A Motor A Day

I love those old detroits! I’ve messed with a few of the 6V and 8V71’s as well as the 71 slant 6. There’s few engines that sound as mean as a turbo’d and blown 2 stroke Detroit.
