Marine Fuel filter water separator
Looking to do a frame mounted spin on fuel filter for my two trucks. Looking at the marine type and wondering if they put more load/strain on the fuel pump. Last spring I eliminated all rubber hose and fuel filter between carb fuel pump and only depending on the little filter in the Q-jet.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
Interesting you should bring this up, I was just looking to put a better filter on mine and realized I had a great filter on my boat that wasn't currently being used. I thought it was great option so I stuck it on and it works great.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
Thanks for the flip, yeah I'm curious myself. Hopefully somebody out there has done something similar. Biggest concern would be fuel pump straining to pull fuel.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
I installed it after the pump because there was no good place down below, and I like it on the firewall. I checked the specs of the filter to make sure it would handle the pressure.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
Appreciate the picture bsarts. I'm figuring on mounting on inside framerail (the straight piece) in the corner on a short piece of aluminum angle.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
Yeah, I was kinda worried about that fuel bowl being a little exposed to an impact from a rock or something down there.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
Yep, I plan on using a filter without the plastic water separator, and mounted in the corner of frame and trailing arm cross member.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
I like the idea of a water separator, what with ethanolia being such a bad disease and all. The firewall mount is an excellent idea. Guarantees no added strain on the fuel pump and that is where GM put the 6.2 diesel filter/water separators. On the '85 Jimmy Diesel I had the base of the separator cracked, a common failure with age and no replacement available. That creates a hard to no start issue due to pulling in air to the injection system. I pulled that off the firewall and installed a spin-on filter mount and devised a bleeder set-up, which worked out great though made bleeding a messy thing. It did work to keep the back of the engine clean, though

. A bleeder with a hose would probably work.

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
I have one on my kubota make sure you get a Racor/Parker unit . They run about $100. The cheap Amazon ones aren’t good they leak and the bowls crack easily . Not a big deal with diesel but with gas I wouldnt cheap out

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
I agree on gas weakening the clear plastic, I have yet to do this mod.
I might use the filter with the without the site bowl and use the filter type with thumb screw the drain |

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
I have no problem with the plastic . But the cheap nockoffs sold are very poor quality . Seals don’t work well and the threads strip easily

Re: Marine Fuel filter water separator
Many the higher quality units can be ordered with a protective guard as they are required for USCG inspected marine applications.
