step side or fleet side?

I recently picked up a 69 c-10 short bed step side. I've been considering picking up a fleetside bed. The step side has grown on me a little, but I really dig the looks of a SWB fleetside. Any thoughts or opinions? Is the current step side bed worth anything.

Re: step side or fleet side?

Stepsides are desirable. However, there are trends that may mean...no so much right now. The key to it is SHORT bed. I have a short fleet, and I'd like to have short step just as much. But is ain't the most important thing right now.

Im a short fleetside guy. I know many members that only want steppers.
I'd build it the way you want it. Either way it'll be a cool Chevy.

Re: step side or fleet side?

I have a step side and I'm looking for a fleetside bed to put on a trailer, the logic being if I ever decide to go with the fleet side I'll have it and a place to put my step side till I decide to go back.

Re: step side or fleet side?

make yourself happy!! I had only had fleet trucks before my current Stepper, and I love the lines on the stepper. They do have to be lowered for my taste, but thats just my taste. Enjoy whatever you decide to go with

I sold my stepside bed for a fleet side, but everybody has their own taste. I would do whatever make "you" happy, it's your truck.

Pure personal preference.

Stepsides look goofy to me. But my opinion of your truck doesn't matter.

Apparently we both have good taste.

Re: step side or fleet side?

If you intend on using the truck to carry anything on a regular basis, a Fleetside offers more space.

If you have no intention to haul anything, then simply go for whichever pleases you aesthetically.

If you're talking sheer value, steppers are definitely more favourable to the general buying public - however those values are generally nominal. An honest truck at an honest price will sell, regardless of options.

Every truck since 1972 is a fleetside. Common, ordinary and without character. Stepsides are ....different. Dare to be different.

Re: step side or fleet side?

I like both. I like the fleetside for the additional bed space and the ability for a wider tire. Plus I like the trim that runs down the side of them.

I personally think the stepsides has a little more character and fit the look of the old trucks. I'm keeping the stepside on mine as that's what the truck originally came with.

As stated before go with what you like the most. Or just buy a short fleet truck and have the best of both worlds

Re: step side or fleet side?

I think a step side bed makes a '67-'72 look older... in a good way. Your step side bed is worth $$ if it's in decent cond.

Re: step side or fleet side?

It's all in what you like. I have a SWB 4x4 that was a fleet side and I had decided to make it a stepper. I think the 4x4's look great with a step bed. But..... since the project is going slow because of the lack of work, I have decided to either go back to the fleet side or use my carpentry skills and build a work of art flatbed since my business partner has a barn full of 70 year old oak boards. What ever you decide, it will be well received.

I'm looking at a 71 like yours right now, just waiting for more pics, and it has the side spare tire carrier too which IMHO makes it real cool.

My truck has the spare tire carrier. Box is in pretty good shape, but I think I would like to trade it for a fleetside

Re: step side or fleet side?

When i first got my 68 it was a stepper and i got this urge for a fleet, found a fleet and swapped over and sold the stepper bed.
About a month later had to find another stepper bed and went back to stepper.

All that said it's your truck, Just don't be a dummy like me and sell your bed untill your really sure.
