I'm outta here!

I was born and raised here in Arkansas. Until now, I've never wanted to be anywhere else. Since I have been retired I've begun wondering how I'd like to live in other parts of the country. Some climates seem better than others. Some not. And then, there is the weather. I hate to leave this world wondering if I'd like to live elsewhere better. Our place has been paid off for a while so there is nothing really holding us back. I'm working on a deal to sell everything in a package deal, fast and quick. Our plan is to buy a motorcoach and head out. We're leaning hard towards a Prevost but still looking. I was on the west coast in 1972 and might like to see it again. We'll see.

"We're leaning hard towards a Prevost but still looking."

My Uncle sold motorhomes for years like Cortez, Sportscoach etc and he is buying a Prevost.
He keeps telling me about all stainless steel frame and "built like a tank".
He's very picky so I'm sure it's top shelf stuff.
Good luck on your journey sounds like a fun adventure!

Re: I'm outta here!

That is a Big decision
I’d think twice before selling everything
And buying a motor home
Maybe rent your house, incase you tire of living remotely
But,
If you do hit the road
You are welcome at either of our places

Good luck with your decision

Re: I'm outta here!

We've been kicking around the idea of finding a new home base for awhile. Now that we are both retired we are thinking keeping this place and going to other areas for maybe month long stays or something along those lines is a better plan.

Re: I'm outta here!

my wifes parents did this, sold everything and bought a motor coach. drove around the country a bit for a few years and settled in eastern oklahoma. said there wasnt anywhere else they could live as inexpensively. now their oldest son lives in the same park.

good luck in whatever you do!

Re: I'm outta here!

rent one for a month and hit the road , and after finding out you'll spend more time sitting in trailer parks and truck stops , Limited to using the interstates and having to drag around a smart car . Repairing any coach problems is time consuming and expensive not to mention dealing with waste and grey water almost daily , Buying brand new with a comprehensive warranty will help but in the end the value drops faster than the amount of time you'll get from filling it with diesel to drive to the next KOA or walmart parking lot .

Kinda makes flying to Florida for a 2 week vacation on the beach sound pretty good .

Re: I'm outta here!

This sounds like a dream plan and I wouldn't want to deter anyone from their dream. I don't know your financial situation, but I do know homes increase in value and motorhomes decrease. I dream of free travel in my retirement, too, but I'll be skipping over the RV part and first look to find the home I want to live my life out in, bought outright with the equity from selling this one. My traveling will be as money allows. Might be some on the Harley (or another one), some in my '67, some in a rental car (maybe), and some in a little gas miser I either buy or lease. I can camp or stay with friends and family i have all over this great nation. If I can't afford widespread travel, there are plenty of places to travel closer by that can satisfy me the rest of my life. More about doing than having for me. I don't care if I never own a motorhome. I just want to get around. If you can buy a motorhome and also buy a house, then go for it. I just have witnessed what a person looses on those things and I need that money in my pocket

I've been thinking recently about close to the same. In my scenario, I put together a cargo trailer and hit the road with it being towed by my Suburban.

why are you limited to interstate roads ?
New coaches specially a Provost/Prevost is pretty much a no maintenance deal. Other than tires and oil changes . I have a 03 Dutch Star pusher with a Cat . Other than tires batteries and brakes it’s been less in maintaining my newer cars . The rig has over 130k miles engine is just about broke in . If you’re in that kind of mind set traveling the country it’s the only way to do it . gray water if you’re in a campground is non issue leave the waste gate open 24/7 . Black water dump maybe every three days for two people and it pretty much a push a button inside the coach since the the hose is already hooked up.

A tow vehicle is peanuts behind a class a motorhome mine gets 10 to 12 mpg pulling or not so it’s not a big deal . Problem is finding a vehicle that can be flat towed anymore . I tow my 85 at times don’t even feel it’s back there.

Re: I'm outta here!

I won't provide a link, but go on youtube and search "Traveling Robert". He started a channel in 2011 with a Kia minivan and a "miniwinnie" trailer. He is now a youtube millionaire based out of FL and goes all over the US. Viewers recommend places to visit and he is informative about pricing and eat places. We watch him all the time.

Re: I'm outta here!

To each his own! Just my experience...We currently have and have owned three 5th wheel RV's over the years and we love to go and see/visit/camp at all the places of interest, but I will honestly tell you after a couple of weeks on the road living in an RV I am ready to come home.

Like Dorthey said, There's no place like home. I need my shop, I need my tools, I need my garden, and most important I need my space and privacy.

Re: I'm outta here!

Unlike 3 day old chili dogs, I'm with Paul , California? No way for me..
I do like the idea of traveling the USA one day.. if it's still here.
I've seen alot of the USA, but mostly from the highway
I'd like to explore the backroads
but I'd want to keep a place to call home

Re: I'm outta here!

I travel across the country once a year in my Newmar diesel. It's a nice way to travel, but I'm ready for home by the time we get back. I'd have a hard time fitting all my hobbies into a motorhome.

Re: I'm outta here!

I was waiting for an April Fool post but missed it here. No high blood pressure here, just put me to thinking and offering my thoughts. I should have known better. IIRC, Boog usually is the April Fooler. Well done. When you have to come out and say "April Fools" you done good.

I love to travel or get way for a weekend, week, or two. But that makes me want home all the more. I like both. If I could only have one it would be home. I have a lot of travel adventure under my belt from when I was young. The old farts would tell me, "You're doing it right doing it while you're young". I agreed then and I agree now. The key is live somewhere you don't mind being stuck. You will always manage to get out to other places.

In '22 I got invited to ride along with my sister & B.I.L. to Maine. He had an expenses paid wedding gig and they dropped me off at an exit where my old buddy and B.I.L. picked me up to haul me back to visit a few days at their place.

Re: I'm outta here!

I learned something in this thread. I have known about Prevost motor homes since the '80s and I always called them Prevost, as in sounds the way it is spelled. I had no idea there is actually a snobby sound to the name, Pray voe, like it's from gay Pay ree. I say pree vost, the same way I pronounce pre-anything... prevention, preview, etc. And vost same as post, host, etc.

I worked for a high class woman who would always correct me when I said Havre de Grace, Maryland. It's in Maryland, not France, and we say it the way it's spelled. Except the French get all messed up on the "er" thing, but we understand no one is perfect . She would tell me her father always told people it's Hava de Graw, and I would always ask how did he say Detroit or Paris. She'd say no more. I say Renalt. In the '60s we all called them Reenalts. I'm not French and I don't turn French just to say one word "correctly". If you come to my state and call it Mary Land you are saying it wrong. It's Merilind, almost like Merlin or Marilyn. I'm far from bousuasie

French is a tough language to get right. I guess most are when words aren't pronounced the way that they are spelled. It throws you off.

Mary Land. I could make a really bad joke right now.

Re: I'm outta here!

I'm glad you didn't

I like to drink Stella Artoys , but since it's so good and I think Belgium would be a cool country to visit, I adapted to say it correctly, Stella Artwa. Gotta respect a beer from the 1300s! A big pig motorhome, not so much. I swear I've met people with Prevost as a last name and they said is as spelled

I'm right. Just checked it out. Pray Voe is just some snotty way of saying it Gimme a break. They're made in American, not France If I ever did get a motorhome it would be a vintage Barth. Sounds similar to barf
