Anyone ever relocate the fuse panel?

I am close to wiring my project and am dreading all that under dash work. I have never liked working under there and now being a fat old man makes it even worse. I thought about putting it on the opposite side of the firewall but then I think the hood hinge would be an obstacle to reach around. Another thought was on top of the inner fender. I am going to go junkyarding to see if I can find a plastic box the right size to mount my fuse panel in. I saw a furd tauraus once that had the fuse panel fold down from under the dash. I thought that was kind of a cool feature.
Anyone one got any better ideas?

My silverado actually has 2, one on the side of the dash (only acessable when the door is open) and the other is under the hood on the DS fender.

Look at the street rod harnesses, they do some creative stuff with the harness, the inner fender sounds like a good idea, your still gonna have your dash wiring to contend with though. The fuse panel being in another spot would be nice even for us skinny young-er guys.

If you are considering moving it how about inside the glove box. If you move it any at all from the stock location it's going to have to be longer so why not? That way you open the glove box flip open the panel cover and it's right there no bending or standing on your head.

You will still have wiring under the dash. With the fuse box in the stock location, replacement wiring harnesses will fit without having to alter them.

I'm gonna do mine when I take the seat out, so I can get all the room that is possible. Without doing that, it would be a futile effort. At my age and my girth, futile efforts are......stupid.

I am re-wiring my truck and generally most after market harness's, even a painless, are designed to work from the drivers side. If going with the custom location, remember stay with the same gauge wire, solder all of your ends and use heat shrink for a nice clean job.

Thanks for the thoughts. I know my way around both ends of a solder gun and understand proper wire gauging, I aleady bought the wire kit from Hot rod wires , so its not plug and play any ways. just trying to be a little creative with it.

This is about as creative as I wanted to get. I moved it a little North and East, but still generally in the same location. Had thought about relocating it elsewhere, but I didn't want to have to extend all those wires. Also thought about the "swing-down" approach, but the 18 circuit panel's a little larger than stock and I estimated there wasn't quite enough room to do exactly what I wanted. Glad I replaced the factory box. It was corroded and had a few terminals burned through.

I put an EzWirekit on the passenger side of the dash (where the glovebox would be, not a stock dash) and it seems great and I have more room to diagnose and work withouth four pedals and brackets. Some wires were extended, and I have custom gauges so I can't help you there.
