It is a 2500, the fender badges say 2500 v-eight, what was the typical rearend ratio on these combos. I have not checked to see if it is posi, are they usually? If you have any answers let me know.

Can you post a pic of the option sticker on the inside of the glove box door? It will tell you if it has a max-traction or a no-spin rear axle.

That truck kicks ass. What a clean piece of history, and family ties.
Enjoy!

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande longhorn bb buckets

i coundn't help but notice, the woodgrain and aluminum glovebox trim was not installed on your longhorn. i was thinking that all sierra grands had that trim piece. I learn something new about these trucks every time i come here.
Any way its a beautiful truck, and the only flaw that i can see is that it needs my name on the title. please don't change a thing on it. its beautiful.

The woodgrain dash and glove box door came out in 71. I don't think there are many 70 sierra grandes, but a few have popped up here.

If you have your heart set on a short bed, big block, not original; I will happily apply mine towards trade for your Longhorn. I am local too!

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande longhorn bb buckets

let me be the first to say go ahead and chop it down.... short beds RULE!

wait, no, don't do it... I'm kidding.
Put me in the group saying don't restore it, preserve it. As already said, they are only original once.
As far as gearing, it should have the dana rear end in it, and a 3.54 gearset. While it is the weaker of the two rears in the C/20 or C/2500 truck, that is the best gearing offered.

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande longhorn bb buckets

I have to say, while I'm not a big fan of the Longhorns (okay, no hate mail from the Longhorn crowd), I have to say, PLEASE DON'T CUT THAT TRUCK UP! It's simply too nice to alter. Besides, when you buy your next '67 - '72 (and we've all done it), you can find the SWB truck or a LWB truck to modify!

And, from Colorado!!

Re: 1970 gmc sierra grande longhorn bb buckets

It would be nice to not paint it but the truck has tiny chips in the lower white paint sections. Those tiny little chips are starting to surface rust, you can't see it in the pictures. I am afraid that surface rust will turn into serious rust. It was in california most of it life and didn't start rusting untill it got to washington. Plus I would like to drive it off and on and don't want to risk the rust if i get caught in the elements. It is all about preservation, it is too rust free nto risk. I might repaint the white lower portion.

I plan on keeping the mirrors but I would like to mount some smaller ones to lower tripod base. It looks like I could mount up some smaller mirrors to lower bracket. Stainless would be nice. I want to remove the upper bracket and just leave the nut in to cover the holes. I could just mount the original mirrors right back on if I wanted. Those original mirrors are so damn ugly. Oh, by the way has anyone seen my original mirrors in stainless or chrome? Thanks

Can't help you with the mirrors , but the condition of the engine compartment is pristine.. do you have any more pictures of the engine? I noticed you had the engine running when you took the pics... you have good oil pressure and the fuel gauge works... great acquision.. good luck .. what a beaut.

Gotta keep trucks like these alive. I have a 1969 that is equipped very similar to this one. (BB, Buckets, AC,etc.) I am not touching the paint either.
