67-68 two tone paint?

First, did the 67-68 ever come with a two tone paint job?
Second, does anyone have a good reference pic of the rear with a stock two tone paint scheme?

Re: 67-68 two tone paint?

The 67 and 68 trucks were offered with a conventional two-tone scheme. It consisted of an off white (ivory) roof and any lower body color except white or ivory. There were differences between the two years though. In 67 the roof alone was ivory, in 68 the windshield pillars and door frames were also painted ivory. This continued with the later 69-72 conventional two-tone trucks but in true white. Also there were ivory and siver grills as well in 68.
Here is a thread that we beat the shade and color names to death but it still has good information and pictures.

What exactly are you looking for in a picture? Here is an original paint 68 with added upper body stripes (not RPO D89).

Re: 67-68 two tone paint?

I am looking specifically at where the paint break is at after it turns the corner for the taillights. On a 71-72 two tone where the cab is white and there is a white strip down the side there is molding that hides the break along the side and around the taillight. I am seeing that a 67-68 two tone only has the cab and rockers white with molding over the break down by the rockers, correct? Does the white come up into the taillight area on a 67-68?

Re: 67-68 two tone paint?

OK, There is a problem here. So lets expand and recap.

The pictures are the stock paint schemes for 68 (ivory/red) and 67 (ivory/med.green)

67 cab roof only in ivory.

68 cab top and window frames only were ivory.

68 50th Anniversary (gold) were the only pickups to have ivory rockers.

68 grills were ivory or silver on most colors

67-68 trucks were not two-toned on the bed or tailgate except the 50th.

The only other painted, contrasting color would be with the D89 stripes and the tailgate letters.

The ivory rockers that started in 68 on the 50th continued in white on 69-70 chevy pickups and 69-72 suburbans.

The 400 series deluxe two-tone (white bodyside panels) was a 71-72 option and required both body side moldings.

The belt molding was not offered in 67-68, only a painted stripe.

However "special paint" was an option and would be so listed on the SPID.

Scott, while it is a good angle it is not a stock 67-68 chevy paint scheme and clouds the issue.

While were on the subject, any pics of the factory mask line for the 67 ivory top? How far into the drip rail did it go?

Right I understand that but I was confused by his first post asking at the end for two tone tailgates cause as has been stated 67-68 did not have these. So figured if he wanted to see where two tones did split he could have a refrence unless as the beging suggests he is going for period correct

Ok. This makes sense. Thanks for the info. Sorry if my misunderstanding as made more confusion for the rest of you guys.

Re: 67-68 two tone paint?

My truck is painted in the very typical 68 style. To me, this paint scheme for a 67-68 is a great look. I think it sets our trucks off nice.

Since I am not exactly sure, I'd like to refer you to this thread by Cooper33 and his amazing 67 ivory/silver C10 stepside. There are lots of pictures, but again not exactly defining. A PM should get pictures that you need to be factory correct. If you would, please have him respond to this thread as well.

If the rockets and lower part of the car has the white/ivory trim does anyone have a pic of how the door jambs are painted and finished ?

While this thread has been dead for quite a while, I would also love to know the answer to this. This thread has taught me quite a bit. I thought that '68's could have had two tone Ivory white on the bottom of the cab/doors/bed/fenders? 67 & 68 were Ivory, but I read that only the 50th anniversary gold/ivory trucks are the only trucks with ivory on the rockers. I'm painting my '68 green, with Ivory on the rockers and the roof of the cab, A posts and door window frames. I'm currently reading through about 30 threads about two toned slant nosed trucks. Hopefully one of them will contain detailed photos of where exactly I should mask, to make sure that the '67/'68 trim that hugs the body lines and goes over the wheel wells will properly break up my two colors.

I don't see where posting a picture of the 71/72 deluxe two tone GMC was muddying up anything. This is what the poster was asking.

I was definitely confused. I read through it thinking everyone was misunderstanding but you. It looked like going off in the 67/68 direction was the wrong way. It looked like the poster just didn't know paint schemes varied between 67/68, 69/70, and 71/72

This is the 71/72 divide, but lower line would be the same. As you can see, it just rounds the corner

Re: 67-68 two tone paint?

That's super helpful! Do you have a picture of the back of that cab, to show how both colors continued between the bed and the cab, by chance?

Thanks!

Yes, it's all stripped and primed now but I took pictures just before. I couldn't figure out how to enlarge that other picture of the close-up. But if you save it you can enlarge it in you folder
