'69 GMC wheel color ???

I wanted to know what color the stock wheels would have been on my truck. It's an early '69 GMC with the custom comfort appearance package. I bought the truck from the original owner all original. The wheels have been painted black with mismatch hubcaps. Under a couple of the caps it looks like they might have been body color originally?? What do y'all think? And what centers would have been on it? Thanks

And I have done my share of searching. All the wheel color threads and also the green truck threads. I have yet to see a 504 green or 534 with the white lid that has the wheels body color.

Re: '69 GMC wheel color ???

Hey there !!! From all the research I did for my 69 GMC Custom, I found that the color of the wheels and the tailgate lettering surround and the mirror heads would be the same silver color. I'm pretty sure the color is Argent Silver. You can search " 1969 GMC wheel color" in the forum area. Good luck and nice truck !!

Re: '69 GMC wheel color ???

FYI, my 69 GMC, which is a Dark Green/Off White two-tone, has the silver GMC lettering on the tailgate, and the wheels are the silver (argent) color on the outside, but black on the back. As far as I can see, this is how the truck was shipped, Go figure.

Well dang. I'm not digging the silver. Bumpers are both chrome and the tailgate letters surround is white like the top. I was thinking body color or white with with the white centers? What do y'all think?

Re: '69 GMC wheel color ???

If your tailgate has the white insert then your wheels would have been white. Argent grey insert would have had grey wheels

Re: '69 GMC wheel color ???

Here is a good thread on the subject. The rub is in the mid year changes and some assembly plants came on earlier, some later.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=hubcaps Photo shows another '69 with silver rims and caps, but as you know, most ads were early following introduction.

Re: '69 GMC wheel color ???

Seems like should be the argent silver, but like in that last photo all the trucks I've seen with the silver wheels also had silver front bumper. My spid has chrome bumper fr&rr??

Also I appreciate that thread. I hadn't came across that one yet.

Re: '69 GMC wheel color ???

This hunt for originality can be frustrating, and I think the main reason is that there were inconsistencies from the assembly plants that put the trucks together. The SPID on my 69 GMC, made in Oshawa, Canada, says it came with chrome hubcaps. When I bought the truck, it came with chrome hubcaps, but they are a later style. However, there was a large stash of parts in the basement of the seller's house, including a box with five painted hubcaps, off white. Sure wish I had the correct chrome GMC caps...
