Ignition unfused on fuse panel - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys I have a question... wiring is definitely not my thing, so don't roast me to bad! I have a 68 c10 I'm building, all the wiring is brand new. AAW plug and play factory harness front to back. Im starting to wire everything up and tested the lights today and tail lights are good. Headlights won't come on though but I think its the dimmer switch. But my real question is the unfused ignition location is always hot. Im trying to run a electric fuel pump from it. Even with a separate fused toggle its always running. Can someone point me in the right direction on this? Thanks gentlemen

I don't know anything about aftermarket wiring but the IGN UNFUSED terminal should be hot when the ignition switch is in the on position only. Sounds to me like there is a wire on the wrong terminal on the back of the switch.

It should only be hot when the key is on. I looked at the wiring diagram but I'm unable to decipher it properly. What color goes to it on the passenger's side of the connector?

I'll have to look when I get back home. All the wiring is new. Aaw dash,engine,alt, rear lights, all of it. Brand new.

hi kc, on my 70 gmc I used that terminal for my hei I installed 5-6 years ago. works perfect for me. I tested it and it was only on when the ing. switch is in the on position. factory fuse box. good luck, BROWN 70

An electric fuel pump should not be running if the engine is not running. Even if you connect it to a switched source of power, you should also add a tach-based control module or oil pressure switch so it will not continue to pump gas if you are in a collision and your engine stops.

I do not know what part # your using or what color wire your trying to tap into but with my AAW all of the pink wires are keyed power.

Factory colors should be ( its been a long time, others will correct me if I made a mistake)

RED- unfused hot
ORANGE- fused hot
PINK- fused/ ignition
BROWN- accessory
BLACK- ground
WHITE- switched ground
