head bolts

I have a 96 350 vortec Chevy truck. It blew a head gasket and i am poing to fix it, Can i reuse the head bolts, a friend said i couldnt reuse them, ( due to torque to stretch), Can I use older style chevy head bolts? Thanks.

You can't reuse the LS style bolts. The old sbc like the 96 can be reused.
Internet lore that was transposed I suspect.

The 96 doesn't have the old SBC, it's similar but different. According to the AutoZone app it uses TTY head bolts so they will need to be changed.

I'd go with a set of ARP head bolts. Some of this TTY stuff is a headache to me.

I re-used the head bolts on my 1998 vortec 350 recently.Thankfully, when one broke it was close enough to the deck to get it out.
Buy new bolts.

If it's a factory engine, no need to get fancy with ARP, stock style replacements is all you need.
