New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

I had heard there were new door stampings on the market so I had to check them out for my 67. The old stampings were so bad I wasnt going to fix my doors, but these are so much better Im going to use them! I bought these from Truck Shop in Concord NC (also in Orange CA).

Improvements Ive noticed, the triangle reinforcement in the corner(s) (kind of feint in one corner, like factory)
Crisper stampings
Less wrinkles in stamping around corners (causes curling)
Door hinge mount area is more defined and measured out better.
Weep hole/square provisions!

For reference, heres some photos showing the fit with my rusty panel cut and placed on it.

Happy cutting!

It's nice to see some of these repo parts get better.

isnt that the truth! The B-pillar stampings from KeyParts are great, and KeyParts has new floor pans that are GM licensed and are way better than previous ones! I typically try to exclusively use KeyParts.

Re: New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

That's a great video Grumpy. Wish they had these nice parts when I did mine, might have to do another.

I had to do the same slice, dice and add that guy had to do on the cab corners.

Re: New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

Based on this thread, I ordered a driver door bottom in hopes to get a better stamping (direct from Key Parts). I received today, and unfortunately it is the same as the one I already have (far from usable without significant cut/welding). I am wondering if I just got unlucky and got an older stock item. Sticker on the part says it is a Tri-Plus. Going to contact them and ask the question and see what is up. Anyone else have any insight or experience on these?

Edit... I messaged Key Parts to see if they can help, I received an older stamping, or ?

What I did was, when I was in Concord NC for a concert, stopped by the Truck Shop and had them pull a few of them for me. And they did have older stock, but had the new ones as well. It even shocked a few of the other customers (regulars) and employees. I would get someone on the phone!

Re: New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

Can you post pictures of bad stamping vs. new and how to recognize what you're getting, for those of us who don't have experience in this area?

Re: New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

Heres some new vs old... I dont have an old one on hand (threw those away) so Ill do my best to elaborate - there is a triangle on the lower side of the panel on the new one that is a replica of the factory stamping, vs the flat on the old one. The door hinge mounting face on the old one looks as though you're looking through non-prescription glasses, soft edges, poor measurements and dimensions, virtually useless for anyone who cares about fit and finish, and the body line that is shown on the lower portion, the line is far more crisp and accurate against the old style. Now, are these the best thing ever? No, they'll need work, modification and some technical skill, but they are miles ahead of the prior. They also have provisions for the factory knock out style drain holes. They are also deeper, so you do not have to add depth if doing a whole bottom, and risk losing a good seal to your door gasket. Hope this helps.

Re: New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

You can check out Key parts on ebay. I recently found them. I have 2 suppliers near me that carry Key Parts. I was able to get a patch panel from Key on ebay cheaper than any other of the suppliers

Re: New Door Bottom Stampings!!!!!

An update. The part I ordered was on Ebay, from Key Parts. I sent them a message, and photos of the item I received, as well as an older bottom I purchased a couple years ago (same poor stamping). They shipped me out one of the newer stampings, and i received today, and it appears it should save me a lot of work. Bottom line, they still have the old stampings, and apparently still shipping both, so just beware. I did notice the two older stampings were labeled Tri-Plus and KeyParts, and the new part does not indicate a mfg, by name.

Ive heard of people running into this issue - what I would advise everyone moving forward, when ordering either call or add a message to order and ask for NEW stampings, so if they mess up, you can at least fall back on the fact you asked for new stampings in the order.
