Steering Box Won't Bolt Up

I bought a bunch of parts that are bolted together and loosely resemble a 1968 C10. It has what is supposed to be a 1968 frame, and I assume a 1968 front cross member. However, the manual gear box will not bolt up to the frame. I can get one bolt in, but then the others don't line up. The steering box doesn't look like I remember from my previous truck, but I don't have one to compare to. Is this the wrong box?

Also, any suggestions on how to identify the front crossmember?

I'm sure you will get an answer, I'm not an expert on 68's but it doesn't look right.

That doesn't look like a steering box from a 67 72 truck. Possibly earlier year truck? Here's my 67 2wd manual box.

That's right! The shaft does stick out further on the manual boxes.

Thanks. Any thoughts on how I can confirm the crossmember is from a '68? Or 68-72. It really doesn't matter to me the specific year as long as it works and I know what to order parts for.

As always, I appreciate the help from everyone on this site!

There are some photos of a 67-72 manual steering gearbox in Gregski's build thread. Your gearbox looks different.

Re: Steering Box Won't Bolt Up

I'll not post a picture of my 71's manual steering gear box as it would be redundant to chewychevy69's gear box..

What you have is not a '67 - '72 steering gear box.. It's not important what that box came from, just that it will not fit your truck...

Re: Steering Box Won't Bolt Up

As others have mentioned, get the correct box and it will bolt up. Power steering would be the way to go at this point
