I got ripped off

I bought my wife a puppy. I got it from an AKC registered kennel. Or so I thought. The website looked legit.

I Paid for the dog. (Expensive) Now I have nothing. No puppy and the guy has vanished from the face of the earth.

My fault I guess, I really wanted to get my wife this pup because she missed our dog so much. He passed away a few months ago. My emotions got the best of me. So I let my guard down and went for it. Big mistake.

I filed a fraud claim with the bank. We'll see how that goes. I'm not holding my breath. But what really honks me off more than the money is that my wife is very upset. She already bought a bed and a collar. and had a tag made for the puppy. There is no puppy. Never was. Just a thief on the internet with pictures of a cute puppy and they prey on your emotions. All I wanted to do was make my wife feel better. To make her happy. And this scumbag just made things worse. I don't know how these people sleep at night.

Dang Paul, that really blows. Im sorry to hear this. I hate thieves so much. It’s a sad day we live in, very hard to tell truth from lies on the Internet or most anywhere else. Hang in there, it will get better soon, the perfect pup will come along soon.

Re: I got ripped off

I'm sorry to hear that happened . We are sort of in the same conundrum right now , About 12 years ago we lost our little dog ( a rat terrier ) and I was looking to replace him and with few available in our area I was tempted to find one over the net but I wasn't so sure about having one shipped in $$$ I didn't want a puppy mill dog with all their health issues so I checked our local shelter and found the perfect dog and we adopted him that day , Now he's getting older and I want to find another puppy and let him learn from our current dog . he's the perfect watch dog , never barks in the house , loves riding in the truck . The next puppy has big shoes to fill .

Im sorry to hear about that Paul. If you are looking for a specific breed, you may have a rescue in your state or neighboring state for that breed that has something for you. You would be amazed what is out there.
Good luck to you both!

Re: I got ripped off

I'm very sorry to hear about this Paul! That is a tough pill to swallow. This kind of stuff is happening all too much these days. I know these pups aren't cheap either. Are you going to look for another one? I know a lady with 1 or 2 pups left. I'm guessing the shipping could be pricey though? I'm not sure on that. But this lady is a trustworthy, and very good breeder.

Re: I got ripped off

Sorry to hear that Paul. Just this week on the local news the same kind of story appeared about how some out of state dog buyers were taken by a couple of guys in Arkansas. On the run still.
The buyers story was they had both sent payment for the dogs but were then asked for WAY more in shipping fees.

Re: I got ripped off

Well that sucks. I'm sad to hear that Paul.
I have a serious distain for theives, but stealing through fraud is even worse, because it is direct and in your face.

I know how violated it feels though. My house was broken into three times over a period of a week. It has been several years and I am still weird about it every time I leave it.
Then as timely as can be, when I got home from work yesterday, my backyard shed had been broken into. Seems like the only thing they took was an old junky tablesaw, but the feeling is the same.

Did you pay by card? Can you get the bank to pay you back and let them chase the guy?

That's exactly what happened to me. After I paid for the dog I got an email from some real sketchy shipper wanting $1200 via Moneygram which is an easy way to get money that you can't get back. These charges were never mentioned by the seller. It just looked like a scam to me. So I emailed the seller. He said not to worry. I would get 90% of my money back on shipping. WTF. Who does that? Nobody. That's who. And his email was in very broken English. Something tells me that he wasn't from Oklahoma. I called BS and pulled the plug. Then I called my bank. Maybe I'll get my money back or maybe I just got a really expensive lesson.

I suppose that I let my guard down because I got a little too comfortable. I buy a lot of things online and have never really been cheated. Heck I bought my last three cars online and everything went smoothly. No hidden fees. No surprises. The cars just showed up at my door on time. As promised.

Live and learn. They're out there folks. And they're real sneaky.

Re: I got ripped off

Man, that's tough. I lost both my little girls in 2020. Oreo lived to be 17 and passed in May 2020 and we lost my favorite girl Nabisco on 12/30/20, she was 16. Oreo was a 6 month old rescue and Nabisco was maybe 2 months old when I got her.

We looked at getting a pup, maybe another husky/golden retreiver mix like nabisco, but I'm just not ready. Now that we have our little human guy (I think 7 months now) I think we've decided to wait until he can wipe his own ass before training another pair of dogs.

On the plus side, our house has never been this clean before.

I paid with Zelle. Which is Bank of America. That's one thing that spooked me with the shipper is that they didn't accept credit cards. Just Moneygram. Who runs a business like that? I've been to swap meets and they take credit cards. I bought a guitar from a chick at a swap meet and she swiped my card on her phone which kind of freaked me out. But she showed me how it worked. It was kind of amazing and she didn't rip me off. And she was pretty easy on the eyes.

I hate scammers. I hate when normal folks get scammed.
Just FYI many airlines will not ship animals of any type anymore.
What kind of pup are you looking for? Maybe folks on the forum can help.

Re: I got ripped off

Pretty much what everyone here said. I hope you're able to get your dough back.

Im leery of buying anything from anyone who will not take PayPal, a credit card or good ol face to face greenbacks. I'll do Venmo with the family or little moonlight jobs but thats about it.

Hope that at the very least you get your cash and that this doesn't sour you to the thought of getting your wife a pup as thats a super kind thing to do for your better half.........and the very best outcome - the jack wagon fraudster gets bit in the arse with Rotweiller grade karma!

I despise thieves.

The end.

I despise thieves as well. I wouldn't even steal from my ex wife. Although I might kill her. Just kidding. I wouldn't do that. But I do think about it when she drives me crazy.

I was looking for another Corgi. But I found this guy at the local animal shelter. Another German Shepherd. But Mama has the final word. She's going to go see him tomorrow to take a look see. I wasn't looking for another GSD but they are great dogs. And this guy needs a home. Fingers crossed.

Re: I got ripped off

He is kind of a blonde color.

I'm just hoping my wife gives me the green light. She wasn't exactly thrilled with the thought of two big German Shepherds to walk in the morning. I suppose that I could walk them but that means that I would have to get out of bed early. Eh. No. Not going to happen. I need my beauty sleep. God knows if anyone needs it I do.

But I think she'll fall in love when she sees him. After all she married me. And that's a tall order right there.

Re: I got ripped off

Last pup we got just showed up way out here in the hills. We're guessing somebody dumped a litter and "Spunky" was the only one to survive the snow and the coyotes. I normally would never have gotten such a small dog (she's some sort of Chewawa mix).

She's getting old now and I don't know how much longer she will live. I guess it's about time for somebody to deliver another dog to our doorstep

Yeah, the first time I saw one of those little phone plug-in things, I was like...what? But it worked just fine.
I would never trust any company that didn't take a card. It's just safer for everyone.
There's a little "mom & pop" Chinese restaurant down the street from me. They have been in this dying strip mall for nearly 30 years. They have always been "cash only". They retired, passed it down to the oldest daughter, she kept it exactly the same.....until about 2 years ago. They take cards now. They must have been losing too many sales. I have literally seen people walk out because of that, while waiting for mine.
Those Money Gram things are essentially cash, not really traceable to who bought it. Has value to whoever has it in their possession.....ah, no.

The great thing about being a pessimist is that you are either pleasantly surprised or right.

Re: I got ripped off

I just sent the nastiest filthiest email that I ever sent in my life to the seller. It was full of expletives about his mother and his sister. And a whole lot of F bombs got dropped. I told him that I hoped he died of ass cancer.

I know it won't do any good. He doesn't care. But it made me feel better. I was mad because my bank said I was out of luck on the money and the dog tag for Coco showed up yesterday with her name on it. My wife cried because there is no Coco. I was fuming. So I unloaded on the thieving bastard. At the very least. I got a good laugh out of cussing him out. There's not much more that I can do except blow off some steam.
