Engine ID

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone can help me decipher this engine code, I know more or less its a boar anchor but just curious to where the engine came from. Not sure if I got it correct.

The rear pad shows the cast as 3970010

The front pad stamping you can see in the picture.

Its a 1977 350? Out of a B body?

Thank you

Re: Engine ID

Since that is a 010 block (4.000 inch bore), it is a 350 either out of a 1975 Corvette or a 1977 B body. It was built in the St Catherine's plant on Jan 27. The casting date will give you the year and you can determine what it came from based on the year. The 305 with that suffix was a 1980

Re: Engine ID

True, but when rebuilt to better form you can at least say you have a Corvette engine in your truck!

Re: Engine ID

LMAO.
You might be the only one that actually has one. I lost count of the claims that were not true.
One easy trick to remember it GM used only two letters as a suffix till 1971 when GM went to three letters. Easy method to split the blocks into two groups.

Re: Engine ID

A '75 Corvette would have a VIN in the 400000 range. So more likely that's a B-body engine
