C40-c70? 67-72

I was thinking about restoring an old heavy-duty truck from 67-72 and I really dont know much about them. What engines came in them? the same as the normal C10-30's? what are the GVW's? what wheel bases are there? are the cabs that same as normal C10-30's? Any info is nice to know.

They could have 350s,I assume smaller V8s too,V6s,Seen one or 2 inline 6s,all the way up to tall deck big block motors...The cabs are similar but no matter the year,they had the small back window like '67 10-30 series..The floor tunnel,and firewall area are also different.The doors are the same,but the there is a notch in the front of the doors on them for the fenders where the smaller trucks don't.I want to someday have a C/40 +.I found a real nice original paint one nearby for $1500 and there is many old grain truck 67-72 C/40+ trucks running around in rougher shape.During the harvesting times,you see a whole bunch of them running around,here.I'd really like to have one with the NAPCO 4wd conversion though.

I ahve seen them with a 283. Also when they say 4 +2 trans, im thinking they mean 4 speed trans and 2 speed rear-end. am i right?

I have also thought about doing one of these but in a top kick style. I would build a crew cab (4door) with a fleet side bed w/ step fenders as needed to cover teh duels. I would then run a Cummins diesel and alison trans or somthing. Change it over to 10 lug rims and have one heck of a trailer hauler

I have a 67 C-50 wrecker. Like the other trucks, 67's had no side markers. Mine has a GVWR at 19,500 and came with a 292 L6/ 4 speed/ 2 speed rearend.

These bad boys look absolutely awesome converted to a dually pickup!

They already have a 10 lug pattern, but they only use 5 lugs on the front. The rear has 10 lugs. A 4 door C/40 - C/50 would be so sweet - and we all know you could do it!!

To be correct,these are known as medium duty trucks.HDs are the 80-series and up.They had 292,current SBC(not 307),366BBC,tall deck BBC,and maybe a Detroit diesel?

So did 40-70 come with the diesel or only the 80 up (90?). Alos what dose it mean tall deck? longer rods or longer stroke?

The 366 and the 427 are both tall deck, truck only motors.

I *think* the Detroit Diesel available was the 4-53. There may have been others, but I have definitely seen a (year unknown) C70 with a 5 speed and a 4-53.

The DH 478 listed is the infamous Toroflow. It was a diesel version of the GMC V-6. Rare now, and very tough to find parts for. GMC didn't make a version of this medium duty truck (with the 67-72 pickup cab) until 1970. The '70-'72 GMC's would have offered all the Chevy engines, plus the GMC V-6.

That`s pretty much what the GMCs had.Find one of those.

I just found a cab and chassis along side the road in a farmers field with most everything still on the truck. So I stopped to see what was left since it had been retired many years ago...I noticed it still had the dash cluster...Then I noticed it was the detroit under the hood...The dash cluster had the factory air gauge and a factory diesel tach which went up to 4k. Way cool! It also had the radio delete...I could not find the owner so maybe I will check it out on my next trip.

A good friend of the family bought a 70 GMC 2 ton and 70 GMC 1/2 new for his business. The 2 ton had a 350 2bbl with governer. Excellent motor for hot rodding as it had the 4 bolt mains and even thought it had the 2 bbl it had large valve heads. Only problem with the small blocks in the bigger trucks is they worked there ass off and rarely saw 50k miles before needing a rebuild or replacement as the rods tended to exit the oil pan when the engine was done.

So the c40 is a 1.5ton? or a 2 ton? And im seeing a few diferent length of trucks, dose anyone know the diferent wheelbases. Also ive seen alot of 4 speed trucks and a few 5 speeds, are there any tree speeds?

To my knowledge there were no three speeds, unless some of them got Autos. I have seen an auto in one though. I actually couldn't tell what the different wheelbases are, but I'm pretty sure there nhever any of the made short enough to put a pickup box on directly.

Nope..no 4wds in one ton or larger trucks..That truck being a NAPCO means its a converted to 4wd truck using NAPCO's conversion.The NAPCO 4wd trucks are rare.

One of our neighbors bought one of these years ago (mid 70's) that had swallowed a valve. Remarkably, there was no damage to the cylinder wall. They replaced the piston and both valves in that cylinder and ran it for years until it finally spun a rod bearing. Slow as snot but didn't know what a load was.
