Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck

I love the work that you and your wife are doing on your truck... Keep us updated on how it is going. It is amazing how good the blue paint is coming out after hiding under primer and the other paint color. You guys are making it look great.

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck

It took this many cans to strip her down to the original paint. There is a little more left to do but Winter is supposed to be here on Wednesday and if that is true it will be cold and wet for a couple of months.

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck

This was not how I wanted to start my morning. The lower ball joint popped out do to the guy that installed them did not use a cotter pin.

I was stuck in the middle of the driveway for over an hour.

Dang...sorry to hear about your troubles...at least it did not break at highway speed. Did you fix it there or have to have it towed?

Keep up the work, it is so cool.

That is what we call a scrotum check!

Any serious damage?

sorry that happened to you!

Thanks guys. It took us 45 minutes to get it on the flat bed and it was fixed that night and I drover her home.

Not to dig into your personal.... but did you have to pay for the towing, or did the shop take care of it for you? Those roll back drivers dont work cheap !!

This is a great build! I'd like to come over & say "hi" next time I'm in Chico, I'm only about an hour away. Can't bring the 65 yet, but one day soon I'll get it on the road....

I used my AAA to have it towed and I tipped the driver $20.00 and the friend of mine that did the original work I mentally abused him for hours.

I am almost jealous of how many of you guys are in the Lake Tahoe area (Stockton, Susanville, Chico, Reno).
Seems like we all gather around certain areas like the Arizona dudes, Oklahoma guys, and the Southeast fellas.... Odd that.

I wonder if that means there is a treasure trove of unadopted, unmolested trucks in the midwest.... Dont seem like there are too many Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri guys around.

Or I could just be talking out my neck...

Once the weather clears up and I get my truck in a little better highway condition I'll have to take you up on that....I'm in the Chico area from time to time.

Truck looks to be coming along great man! Sorry about the breakdown, but glad no major damage was caused to either truck or passengers! Keep it up.

So I haven't done much other than drive and I replaced the distributor with an HEI unit and my gas mileage went from 6mpg to 15mpg around town. I'm super stoked on that.

Re: 66 SB Step Side- Ex Air Force Base Truck

I thought that i'd resurrect this thread due to the fact that this is the truck that i'm getting tomorrow!!! I can't believe that i've managed to find this build thread for it!!!

I'm getting it from the guy who bought it from C4 Metal Werks (a friend of his) and imported it over here to England. He imported it in October 2012 and has been using it regularly and claims its a great truck....

I already have a few plans for it, but nothing major as i'm now poor due to buying it. Immediate plans are mexi blankets for the bench seat and some iron cross peep mirrors (all items that were going on my Volvo Amazon, that I part ex'd for the truck), clean up the rear chassis and bed area and paint it all up as the bed wood is missing so it's the ideal time to do it before I put new wood in the bed. I want to keep the paint job as it is as I love the well worn patina'd look but i will be practicing my pin striping skills on it when the weather over here improves.

I'm getting excited now!
