Hurricane Ian

They are projecting it will make landfall around the tampa bay area which if it does will be a worst case scenario , It's been over a 100 years since Tampa bay took a direct hit and the Pinellas county area is built out with homes lining every square foot of shoreline, Tampa bay is a hard place to evacuate from with basically I-75 heading North and I-4 heading east and the traffic is already backing up . I talked with one of my friends yesterday and they are leaving for Nashville this morning .

Re: Hurricane Ian

I lived on the beach there for 25+ years the barrier islands used to be all connected to the mainland by draw bridges and as the storms came closer they would raise the all draw bridges to allow marine traffic access to safe harbor basically traqpping all the residents on the beaches during the storms , beach bars in the 1980's would remain open for the hurricane parties , The storms would basically go around the bay area and many people would just ride them out , I remember guys water sking up Gulf blvd towed behind a jeep , The waves would come up so far into the bars people would be sitting ontop of the bar itself to get out of the water , The cops would try to shut them down but that never worked . The area now is all multi million Mc mansions 10 feet apart and 3 stories high with new owners from up north that have never been thru a storm like this . I moved to the country in Tn years ago to get away from the crowds and traffic , it has to be 10 times worse now .

Re: Hurricane Ian

I guess they didn't know they were lucky for 100 years. I pray for those in it's path. The elevation is so low there. The storm surge will be a big problem

Re: Hurricane Ian

They are saying Ft. Meyers for the direct hit and staying at cat-4. Supposed to move slowly up the coast and drop possibly 25" of rain in places. They say it could dump 10-15" up through Georgia and NC. Doesn't look real good

Re: Hurricane Ian

I wouldn't want to have to rely on an electric car to evacuate , Having to sit in miles long traffic jams and limited charging stations along the way , The south west area of Florida has been built out with mc mansions , The damage this storm will inflict will take years to repair and when the blue collar workers have been priced out of housing the costs to bring in all the workers on a daily basis to restore Biff and Buffy's beach front digs on the barrier islands Just the cleanup of debris will take a long time , if your in construction head to Fl and name your price .

Scroll thru the pictures of the damage from hurricane Charley in 2004 that hit the same area , it's bad , I hope everyone got out of the way for this one . This storm is 3 times the size of Charley

I'm anxious to hear how the west coast as well as mainland of Florida is. Unfortunately, video from Ft. Myers looks exactly as I pictured it would. And the title of the video is dead-on. I wonder how far inland 9' of surge was blown in a place that is virtually at sea level. This is terrible

The storm surge was pretty bad , They are reporting "Hundreds dead " The area wasn't supposed to take a direct hit , Say a prayer for the people that didn't evacuate . pictures just now coming in are BAD .

Re: Hurricane Ian

Have friends a couple miles north of Fort Meyers and was talking to them last night. They got hammered by the storm but lucky at the same time. The tidal surge came within 6'' of flooding their home before it receded. They have the 2nd highest home in the neighborhood. Needless to say they had a couple of neighbors staying over.

Re: Hurricane Ian

My son and his family have been without electric since about 10pm but thankfully he has a generator. Has neighbor next door plugged in as well. He is about an hour south of Orlando and his boss told him they are working tomorrow in Tampa. My son said as far as he heard Tampa is totally flooded but will find out in the morning.

Re: Hurricane Ian

it's probably a good thing that all the rescue vehicles/helicopters / coastguard boats/ fire trucks / ambulances and police cars are fueled by gas , where would any electric whatever recharge to perform rescues services ? It's like the biggest fraud perputrated on America .

Why would anyone listen to a bartender ? Get my beer and here is your $1.00 tip Now go away !
