You can, if you can source some d44 3/4 ton early disc brake hub (1971-1975/6). They did have issues with the inner bearing race coming loose and spinning. Also had issues with the locking hub bolt holes getting wallered out and stripped when the hub came loose. Like I said the spline drives are actually stronger.

Re: Swapping axle parts question

You can’t use any of the drum brake parts for the disc swap. Use all the parts from the 10 bolt axle. BUT you run into some problems. You need the disc brake outer axles and they have a larger u-joint than the drum axles. So you can’t use the Dana 44 inner. You have to buy more parts, or…

Just clean up the 10 bolt housing and swap the whole thing in. This was the easy way to go in my kids Jimmy. On my own the thrust washer/bushing setup is different on the Dana 44 and the 10 bolt so it’s not exactly right on mine but hasn’t been a problem yet…

Re: Swapping axle parts question

So I'm happy with the results
From the 10 bolt I used outer axle stubs, knuckles, hubs and caliper brackets. Had to buy 2 inner axles for the 44 with the bigger u joints to match stubs and just ordered disc brake kit from lugnut for the 10 bolt

Re: Swapping axle parts question

Looks like I have a hiccup here. After the Lockout hubs were installed and locked the axle is extremely hard to turn. Can't do it by hand only with a bar. I'm thinking the thrush washer behind spindle is Making it tight ? Other side works perfect

Re: Swapping axle parts question

Didn't that have a power loc in it? Turn the driveshaft by hand and see what happens

Re: Swapping axle parts question

So the problem was the after market inner shafts has a much thicker yoke and there was no clearance in the housing for it. I bit of grinding and it spins freely now

Also got the backs done today too
