What is this part called?

It's the ghost image above number 15....... Number 15 attaches to it. It's for the Inside AC to Defroster control. I have a question about this unit, and would like to sound nearly intelligent when I ask. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=167

Thank you

Re: What is this part called?

Good question. It function is to divert air from floor to defrost vents. So, I would call it the "heater/defrost diverter box". Not reproduced the best I could determine.

Exactly. Seems like a good label............ I've looked in a few places. They seem to reproduce everything else. I think I'll call mine a "Inside Air/Defroster Selector", beings that's consistent with how the A/C/heat controller is labeled.

Re: What is this part called?

I think the reason the box is not reproduced is that it is made from sheetmetal and not in a location that would make it susceptible to rusting. So, the box is durable and thus the replacement market/demand small. Most/all the other parts are plastic and subject to cracking/breaking/deforming and thus market/demand is high.

Which leads me to my next question. Don't want to mess something up. I'll put it in another thread.

Diverter box. They come up for sale on the parts board, see NOS units on eBay, and Brothers used to sell them, not sure if they still do or not.

In my 71 &72's with ac they were made out of plastic from the factory and have been available at least 20 years or so in repops

Re: What is this part called?

The "diverter box" for the "inside" air control is steel. If you search for diverter box, the new ones appear for the A/C. From a limited search (including Brothers), these may no longer be reproduced. Note: I don't need one, just wanted to know what called.

The diverter box for the A/C and the "S Duct" are plastic. You can locate repro.

Re: What is this part called?

I do believe that the item #12 is called the diverter box because of the flspper valve enclosed in it that diverts the air where you want it to go

Re: What is this part called?

I think he is talking about the grayed out un-numbered and un-named part in that diagram.

Re: What is this part called?

the grayed out thing - which I think is what you are asking about not only is inside and durable like Davidf pointed out, but it is the same on AC and non-AC trucks so EVERY one out there has one making any part-out a potential donor.

Re: What is this part called?

The flapper on the grayed out image (""Inside" Air/Defroster Selector Duct") has a piece of rubber (approx 3" wide x 5" long x 3/16" thick) mounted to the flapper with three staples. This piece runs on both sides of the flapper. It's likely the rubber is cracking on yours, right where it bends.

Could try locating a piece of rubber that's durable and flexible (reference runs on both sides). Could make due with two rubber pieces instead.

I likely won't take it off the hinge. Not worth chancing a scratch or break. I don't have staple gun to go through that anyway. Doesn't mean I can't replace it. It's that or call it a day already. May not live long enough to require a replacement.

BTW, my attempt to sound nearly intelligent backfired. I just wasn't wearing my glasses.

Thumbs up Re: What is this part called?

The part you are talking about is to direct air either for the floor heat are for the defrost to windshield. The one in my 71 AC truck is metal and if I'm not mistaken they are the same thing on either AC trucks are just heat.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
